Job summary

Mersey Medical Services Ltd in Manchester seeks an Emergency Medical Technician (Frontline) to deliver high-quality pre-hospital care within a multidisciplinary team. You’ll respond to emergencies and non-emergencies, provide first aid and minor treatments, and transport patients within your scope of practice.

Essential: valid FREC 4 or equivalent with ILS (3+ months to expiry), full manual driving licence, and excellent communication and teamwork.

Qualifications

• Minimum of a valid FREC 4 certification or equivalent/above with ILS remaining.
• Experience in emergency response or pre-hospital care preferred.
• Full Manual Driving Licence is required.
• Supernumerary shifts acceptable and desirable.
• Additional qualifications (e.g., CERAD, IHCD) welcomed.

Responsibilities

• Assess, treat, and transport patients and service users in line with policies and pre-hospital care guidelines.
• Accurately document patient, vehicle, and equipment information and maintain confidentiality.
• Support infection prevention and control, perform vehicle/equipment checks, and report defects.
• Act as senior Clinical lead when paired with a Patient Transport Attendant and pursue CPD.
• Communicate effectively with patients, carers, and team during emergencies and non-emergencies.

Role Overview

This role offers exposure to a diverse range of service environments, supporting both your professional and clinical development. Working alongside a multidisciplinary team, you will play a key role in delivering high-quality patient care.

You will utilise your clinical skills to provide first aid and minor treatments, as well as assist in urgent and emergency care situations. The position involves responding to both emergency and non-emergency incidents, always delivering compassionate, professional care within your defined scope of practice.

Key Responsibilities

In this role, you will be responsible for assessing, treating, and transporting patients and service users in line with Mersey Medical policies and procedures, including the delivery of pre-hospital emergency care. You will ensure all patient, vehicle, and equipment documentation is completed accurately and submitted as required, while delivering care within your level of competence and in line with current best practice guidelines such as IHCD and JRCALC. The role requires you to gather and communicate relevant information from patients, carers, and others at the scene, maintaining strict confidentiality at all times, and to identify and elevate any concerns relating to a patient’s social or environmental conditions. You will actively support infection prevention and control measures through regular cleaning of vehicles, equipment, and facilities, as well as safely and legally driving company vehicles in both emergency and non-emergency situations, always prioritising patient comfort and safety. In addition, you will carry out routine vehicle and equipment checks to ensure operational readiness, reporting any defects in accordance with company procedures. When working alongside a Patient Transport Attendant, you will act as the senior team member with overall clinical responsibility. You will also be expected to maintain and develop your professional competence through continuous professional development and undertake any additional duties appropriate to your role, skills, and experience.

Essential Requirement

• Minimum of a Valid FREC 4 certification or equivalent/above + ILS with more than 3 months left to expire
• Previous experience in emergency response or pre-hospital care is preferred.
• Ability to work well under pressure in a fast-paced environment.
• Excellent communication and teamwork skills.
• Full Manual Driving Licence.
• Supernumerary shifts

Working as part of an ambulance crew, excellent communication, caring and time management skills are as must, as you will support and care for a range of patients with different conditions, mobility and disabilities.

In order to fulfil this role you must hold a full and valid UK driving licence, be physically fit so you can undertake the manual handling of patients and equipment, have previous experience in customer support and preferably patient care experience.
