Job summary

Suffolk Fire and Rescue Service is seeking a skilled Fleet Technician to maintain and repair our specialist fleet and emergency vehicles at Phoenix House Workshops. You will service light and heavy vehicles, diagnose faults, and support 24/7 response readiness across Suffolk.

You’ll work with CAN Bus systems and modern vehicle technologies, carry out overhauls, and participate in the one-hour travel radius call-out rota, while committing to safe working practices and continuous improvement.

Qualifications

Significant experience maintaining and repairing commercial vehicles over 3.5 tonnes.
City and Guilds or NVQ Level 3 in vehicle maintenance; apprenticeship is advantageous.
Full UK driving licence including Category C (Class 2).
Flexible approach and willingness to participate in the call-out rota.
Strong problem-solving and diagnostic skills; commitment to safety.

Responsibilities

Maintain and repair Suffolk Fire and Rescue Service fleet, including light vehicles, heavy goods vehicles, fire appliances and specialist equipment.
Carry out servicing, repairs and major overhauls and diagnose faults usingCAN Bus and modern vehicle technologies.
Work from Phoenix House Workshops or across Suffolk at fire stations to inspect and repair vehicles.
Support 24/7 emergency call-out readiness and ensure fleet reliability for frontline response.
