Job summary

University Hospitals of Morecambe Bay NHS Foundation Trust in Lancaster is seeking a Registered Nurse for the Emergency Department (Band 5) on a 6‑month fixed term contract. The role covers all ED areas with 24/7 shift patterns including nights and weekends, across triage, major injuries, trauma and resus.

Successful candidates will be registered nurses with ED experience, capable of independent patient care, and comfortable with discharge planning and teaching.

Qualifications

  • Must be a First level Registered Nurse with current UK registration.
  • Experience in Emergency care is essential.
  • Venepuncture and cannulation proficiency required.
  • Ability to work in a multidisciplinary team and show ongoing professional development.
  • Experience mentoring and assessing junior staff desirable.

Responsibilities

  • Organise and deliver high standards of evidence-based nursing care.
  • Carry out direct patient care with minimal supervision as required.
  • Promote patient health through education, support and advice.
  • Coordinate and supervise delegated tasks in the absence of senior staff.
  • Assist discharge planning in collaboration with the multidisciplinary team.
  • Treat all patients with courtesy and maintain confidentiality.
  • Ensure a safe and therapeutic environment for patients, relatives and staff.
