Job summary

Cortech Talent Solutions Ltd is seeking an Embedded Software Engineer in a rural site near Littlehampton, West Sussex. The role offers up to £70,000 per year for a mid to senior level engineer working four days onsite weekly.

You will develop embedded software in C/C++, work with ARM STM32 devices, USB/Ethernet interfaces, and contribute to Windows-based tooling. A small, agile team environment emphasizes proactive problem-solving and customer support.

Qualifications

• 3+ years of embedded software experience with recent hands-on use.
• Proficiency in C/C++ on ARM microcontrollers (STM32).
• Experience with ThreadX RTOS and peripheral interfaces (USB, Serial, Ethernet).
• Knowledge of industrial cybersecurity (IEC62443) is valued.
• Strong math/physics foundation and problem-solving skills.
• Experience with Git or Subversion for version control.
• Excellent written and verbal communication; UK driving licence required.

Responsibilities

Job description

Location: Littlehampton, West Sussex (BN postcode) – 4 days onsite per week

Salary: up to£70,000 approx.

Level: Mid to Senior

Travel: Must hold a valid driving licence (site is rural)

As an Embedded Software Engineer, you will:

• Develop embedded software in C/C++, with exposure to Rust, Python, and Linux environments.
• Work with ARM STM32 microcontrollers, physical equipment, and industrial flow measurement tools.
• Contribute to Windows-based programming, including LCD and USB integration.
• Collaborate in small, agile teams using modern development techniques to design, code, test, and deliver solutions.
• Provide technical support to internal teams (Systems, Production, Product Management) and external customers in the UK and abroad.
• Participate in system installation, integration, and occasional customer site visits (training, demos, feature improvements).
• Propose product enhancements based on customer feedback and your own technical expertise.
• Balance independent work with teamwork, demonstrating creativity, proactivity, and forward-thinking problem-solving.

Candidates must demonstrate 3+ years’ experience with recent, regular use (within the last 6 months) in all of the following:

• Electronics digital and analogue
• Embedded C and C++ for Motorola and ARM
• ThreadX operating system
• USB, Serial and ethernet protocols
• Cyber security for industrial equipment, CRA or IEC62443
• Strong expertise in C++ (including sockets, network programming/configuration, multi-threading, large code bases, and 3rd party library integration).
• Solid understanding of mathematics and physics.
• Experience with software version control systems (e.g., Git, Subversion).
• Degree in Computer Science, Electronic Engineering, or equivalent discipline.
• Excellent written, verbal, and digital communication skills.
• Full UK driving licence and valid passport.

While not mandatory, experience in the following areas will be highly valued:

• Analogue and digital electronics.
• Linux development and ARM STM32 programming.
• Cybersecurity awareness in embedded systems,
• Familiarity with industrial equipment integration.
