Job summary

Platform Recruitment is seeking an Embedded Linux Contractor in Cambridge for a major device-driver project. The assignment is outside IR35, with a long-term outlook and a potential temp-to-perm option.

You will develop embedded Linux firmware for OMAP and iMX6, configure kernels and BSPs, enable drivers, and integrate peripherals while producing design and test artefacts. BPSS eligibility is required; starts ASAP and runs until September.

Qualifications

• Experience in embedded Linux firmware development for target hardware.
• Experience with kernel configuration, BSP updates, and device driver enablement.
• Familiarity with platform bring-up and peripheral integration (UART, SPI, I2C, PCIe).

Responsibilities

• Develop embedded Linux firmware for target platforms (OMAP & iMX6).
• Configure kernel, update BSPs, and enable device drivers.
• Integrate firmware with existing software and peripherals.
• Investigate and resolve firmware hardware/software faults.
• Produce design docs, test specifications, and release notes.
• Create test artefacts and evidence of testing (unit/integration).
• Prepare issue investigation reports and resolutions.

Embedded Linux Contractor | Outside IR35 | Cambridge | £55-65/h

My client has had a large project approved, and the deadline is July ’27. They are looking to build up a team of embedded software contractors to form a device driver development team.

The company has a fantastic culture, state of the art equipment, and exciting R&D work over a long term contract. They regularly hire contractors, and can offer a temp to perm arrangement at the end of the contract if you're interested in making that move.

Scope of Services

• Development of embedded Linux firmware for target hardware platforms (OMAP & iMX6), including kernel configuration, BSP updates, and device driver enablement
• Implementation of software required to support platform bring-up and peripheral integration (e.g. UART, SPI, I2C, PCIe)
• Integration of firmware into the wider system, ensuring compatibility with existing software components
• Investigation and resolution of technical issues relating to firmware, including hardware/software interaction faults
• Production of supporting artefacts (design documentation, test specifications, and release notes
• Embedded Linux firmware components (kernel, BSP, drivers)
• Updated or new software modules integrated into the platform
• Supporting design and test documentation
• Evidence of testing and validation (unit, integration, system level as appropriate)
• Issue investigation reports and resolution outcomes
