Job summary

Polytec Personnel Ltd, based north of Cambridge, seeks a Functional Test Engineer to validate features in embedded products within an Agile team. You will design and execute functional tests for embedded software, devices and APIs, and ensure quality, reliability and performance.

Requirements include a degree in CS or Electronics, strong experience in functional testing in Agile, and testing embedded systems.

Qualifications

• Degree in Computer Science, Electronics, Telecommunications or a related discipline.
• Strong experience in functional testing within Agile/Scrum environments.
• Experience testing embedded systems, communications products, networking, IoT or similar technologies.
• Knowledge of structured test design techniques and exploratory testing.
• Experience with test automation tools and scripting using Python, C# or similar.
• Familiarity with Jira, Azure DevOps or other test and defect management tools.
• Strong debugging, defect investigation and problem-solving skills.

Responsibilities

• Design, develop and execute functional test cases for embedded software, devices and APIs.
• Perform manual, exploratory and automated testing throughout the development lifecycle.
• Investigate defects, analyse logs and system traces and work closely with developers to resolve issues.
• Maintain and develop test strategies, test plans and regression testing approaches.
• Participate in Agile ceremonies including sprint planning, reviews and retrospectives.
• Contribute to test automation initiatives to improve efficiency and reduce regression effort.
• Provide clear reporting on test progress, risks and quality metrics.
