Job summary

James Fisher and Sons plc is seeking an Electronics Engineer to join our Westhill engineering team. This role focuses on the design, development, testing, and support of electronic systems used in diver life-support equipment and related tech, across the full product lifecycle.

The successful candidate will hold a degree in Electrical/Electronic Engineering, have hands-on hardware design experience, and be comfortable with embedded systems, PCB design tools, and manufacturing docs.

Qualifications

• Degree in Electrical/Electronic Engineering or equivalent industry experience.
• Proven experience in an electronics engineering or similar role.
• Strong electronics design skills, including design calculations and simulations.
• Experience designing embedded system circuits (STM32 or similar microcontrollers).
• Knowledge of EMC-compliant electronic system design.
• Proficient in schematic capture and PCB design using tools such as Altium Designer or KiCAD.
• Experience producing manufacturing documentation (Gerber files, BOMs) and using PLM systems.
• Understanding of IPC electronics standards; experience with embedded software and marine/defence standards (LR/DNV) is advantageous.

Responsibilities

• Provide engineering design input to new products and provide engineering support to the existing product range by assessing technical queries and providing engineering solutions.
• Sourcing suitable components and materials when required and creation of part numbers and bill of materials.
• Creation of engineering documentation such as specifications, proposals, assembly instructions, test procedures, certification and reports.
• Adherence to engineering and company standards and processes.
• Site visits to other JFD offices and client assets as and when required.
