Job summary

Bach-Simpson, part of Wabtec, seeks an experienced software engineer for embedded Linux work in the UK. You design, implement and test software for train electronics, collaborating with hardware teams to deliver robust solutions.

The role requires 5+ years with C, a relevant bachelor’s degree, and a proactive, detail-oriented mindset. Travel and safety-focused lab work are expected as part of the job.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in software engineering, CS, IT or related field.
• Minimum 5 years' professional experience with C.
• Demonstrable passion for programming and open-source work.
• Experience with embedded systems and bare metal programming.
• Ability to see the big picture and improve processes.
• Willingness to embrace AI for workflows.
• Clear English communication, written and spoken.
• Strong self-motivation and deadline focus.
• Excellent attention to detail.
• Authorized to work in the UK.
• Willingness to travel internationally, including the US.
• Ability to lift/move equipment up to 30 lbs and work in an electronics lab with ESD/safety protocols.

Responsibilities

• Participate in daily stand-up meetings.
• Analyze technical requirements and design software.
• Implement software designs and debug defects.
• Create and maintain formal design documentation.
• Assist other groups in understanding product behavior.
• Work with product management to respond to customer feedback.
• Set up and perform hands-on testing at a lab bench.
• Connect/interact with components, cables and fixtures.
• Honor testing needs with proper tool handling and safety.
