About the role

We are seeking a practical and motivated Electronics Sustaining Engineer to join the Axis team in Tewkesbury.
This role strengthens the team’s in-house electronics capability and provides local electronics engineering ownership to support the continued manufacture, reliability, and improvement of established products. You will work hands-on with PCB assemblies and legacy designs, taking partially completed engineering work through finalisation, validation, manufacturing handover, and controlled production release.
Working closely with engineering, manufacturing, quality, and suppliers, you will resolve product issues, manage component obsolescence, improve build efficiency, and maintain clear technical documentation across the product lifecycle.

What you will be doing

As the Electronics Sustaining Engineer, you will be responsible for:

  • Reviewing and updating legacy electronics designs, wiring diagrams, schematics, bills of materials, standard operating procedures, and associated technical documentation
  • Completing and finalising partially developed designs, taking electronics solutions from engineering prototype through validation, documentation readiness, manufacturing handover, first-build support, issue closure, and controlled production release
  • Supporting PCB and PCBA design changes, re-spins, verification activities, and the implementation of engineering changes in production, including bench-level testing, fault finding, and verification of fixes before release
  • Investigating product and manufacturing issues through structured root causeanalysis, corrective action, and lessons learned
  • Identifying obsolete or unsupported electronic components and evaluating suitableequivalent or improved alternatives for fit, form, function, availability,manufacturability, quality risk, and lifecycle suitability to reduce supply andproduction risk
  • Driving practical improvements to product performance, power consumption, buildefficiency, quality, throughput, and cost
  • Providing hands-on technical support to manufacturing, including the assessmentof PCB assemblies, components, and incoming quality requirements
  • Applying Design for Manufacturing and Design for Assembly principles to ensurethat electronics designs are robust, repeatable, and production-ready
  • Working with engineering, process engineering, quality, and other stakeholders tosupport product lifecycle and continuous improvement activities
  • Liaising with UK and overseas suppliers on technical specifications, componentselection, manufacturability, quality, and issue resolution
  • Preparing clear technical reports and maintaining accurate design, engineeringchange requests, revision-controlled BOM and schematic updates, manufacturingrelease packs, approval records, and product documentation
  • Promoting a culture of safety, quality, collaboration, and continuous improvementwithin the team
What you will bring
  • BSc or BEng in Electronics, Electrical Engineering, Mechatronics, or a relatedengineering or science discipline; HNC/HND or equivalent qualifications may beconsidered with relevant practical experience
  • Early-career to mid-level experience, typically up to five years, in electronics design,sustaining engineering, product engineering, or a related technical role
  • Practical experience in PCB and PCBA design, including the ability to read,understand, and modify electronic schematics
  • Good working knowledge of electronic components and PCB assemblies, with theability to support design changes and component substitution
  • Strong analytical and practical problem-solving skills, including root cause analysisand a proactive approach to resolving issues
  • A completer-finisher mindset, with the ownership and attention to detail needed totake partially developed designs through to production-ready completion
  • Clear written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to collaborate acrossengineering, manufacturing, quality, suppliers, and other stakeholders
  • Ability to communicate technical requirements effectively with suppliers andmanufacturing partners in the UK and overseas
  • Experience in an industrial or manufacturing environment is desirable
  • Hands-on experience with surface-mount PCB assemblies and soldering isadvantageous
  • Commitment to safety, quality, accurate documentation, and continuousimprovement
  • Ability to work predominantly on site in Tewkesbury to provide effective hands-onsupport to products and production
