Job summary

SPT Labtech in Cambridge is seeking an Engineering Manager to lead the Electronics and Motion Control R&D team. You will own the architecture of electronics and control systems, stay hands-on in design, and collaborate across software, firmware, and mechanical teams to deliver reliable, high-performance electromechanical systems.

Qualifications

• Degree (or equivalent) in Electronics Engineering.
• Chartered Engineer (CEng) status, or working towards it, is advantageous.
• Experience in electronics, motion control, and systems integration for automated laboratory instrumentation.

Responsibilities

• Establish and develop the Electronics and Motion Control R&D team including recruitment, performance management and development of team members, ensuring development projects are provided with the engineering resources they require.
• Define and maintain architecture for electronics and control systems, ensuring alignment with software, firmware, and mechanical teams.
• Lead motion-control strategy, providing direction on actuator requirements, drive-system architecture, and motion-control approaches that integrate into the wider system.
• Provide technical input on embedded system design, hardware-software interfaces, and low-level integration with firmware and software teams.
• Mentor and coach team members, nurturing technical skills and supporting career growth.
• Collaborate with manufacturing, service, and other areas to resolve technical issues and ensure robust product introduction.
