Job summary

Red Bull Powertrains is offering year-long placement opportunities within our Electronics & ERS Engineering Design teams. In these hands‑on roles, you will be immersed into the heart of our state-of-the-art Technical and Testing facilities where we drive engineering and innovation to the limit to develop cutting‑edge Formula 1 power units.

Pushing boundaries is in our DNA! The placement starts July 2027 and provides exposure to the 2027 Formula 1 season, with responsibilities spanning design,

Qualifications

  • Knowledge and experience from at least one year of undergraduate study in electrical/electronic engineering, mathematics or physics.
  • Solid understanding of engineering principles and ability to apply mathematical methods to real-world problems.
  • Familiarity with CAD, FEA, CFD or system modelling (training provided).
  • Knowledge of electronic design and simulation tools (LTSpice or similar).
  • Design and layout of PCBs, including electronic circuit testing, debugging and validation.
  • Commissioning and troubleshooting of electronic systems and test rigs.
  • Experience handling and analysing data from simulations or physical tests and prep of technical documentation.
  • Ability to break complex technical problems down to fundamentals and understand the contributing physics.
  • Demonstrated passion for engineering through projects, placements or work experience.
  • Positive, can-do attitude and willingness to learn new skills.
  • Ability to follow best practice and work on multiple tasks simultaneously.
  • Excellent communication skills and experience working in a team environment.

Responsibilities

  • Contribute to all stages of the engineering process from conceptual design through manufacturing reviews to live testing on in-house facilities.
  • Apply engineering design principles using tools to develop real Power Unit components.
  • Support the design, testing and development of electronic components for the Energy Recovery System (ERS).
  • Assist with power electronics design, including high-power inverters, DC/DC converters and control circuits.
  • Help build, test and debug electronic components and systems.
  • Develop and improve test rigs and software (LabVIEW, TestStand).
  • Create and update test procedures for electronic components.
  • Analyse test data and assist with fault investigation to improve reliability and performance.
  • Prepare risk assessments and follow safety procedures to ensure a safe working environment.
  • Interpret and report data through technical documentation and present insights to stakeholders.
  • Collaborate closely with Technical and Testing teams to deliver engineering solutions.
  • Gaining exposure to the 2027 Formula 1 season and contributing to Red Bull Powertrains.

Qualifications And Attributes
  • Knowledge and experience from at least one year of undergraduate study on either an electrical/electronic engineering, mathematics, or physics degree course.
  • A solid understanding of engineering principles and the ability to apply mathematical methods to solve real-world problems.
  • Familiarity with engineering software such as CAD, FEA, CFD, or system modelling (training will be provided).
  • Knowledge of electronic design and simulation tools (LTSpice or similar).
  • Design and layout of PCBs, including electronic circuit testing, debugging, and validation.
  • Commissioning and troubleshooting of electronic systems and test rigs.
  • Experience with handling and analysing data from simulations or physical tests and confidence in preparing high-quality technical documentation.
  • Ability to break complex technical problems down to fundamental principles and understand the contributing physics.
  • Ability to demonstrate a genuine passion for engineering through involvement in extra-curricular projects, previous placements, or work experience.
  • Positive, can-do attitude and willingness to learn new skills.
  • Ability to follow best practice and work on multiple tasks simultaneously.
  • Excellent communication skills and experience working in a team environment.
Placement Details

The placement will be for 1 year, starting July 2027.
