Electronics Engineer

Location: RG7 4PR, between Reading and Basingstoke, with free onsite parking.

Due to the classified nature of the work, remote working opportunities are limited. The successful candidate will primarily work on site at AWE Aldermaston.

Package: £37,860 - £56,000 (dependent on experience and qualifications)

Working pattern: AWE operates a 9-day working fortnight. Flexible working requests are welcome—please specify your preference in your application.

Role Overview

AWE is recruiting for an Applied Physicist or Engineer in the Future Systems Technologies Group / Non-Nuclear Components Group. This role involves hands-on physics experiments, design, and analysis, supporting hardware development and modeling programs, with some travel within the UK and to the US.

Key Responsibilities

1. Develop understanding of electrical energy use in firing units for Electro Explosive Devices.
2. Understand explosive energy technology issues.
3. Manage technical work programs.
4. Plan and conduct explosive trials with diagnostics.
5. Maintain technical progression of the Electro-Explosives Team.
6. Train firing officers and explosive workers.
7. Engage with relevant communities and stakeholders.
8. Participate in review and improvement activities for technical projects.

Candidate Requirements

Essential:

• Undergraduate degree in a scientific/STEM discipline or equivalent.

Desirable experience includes:

• Producing and reviewing technical reports.
• Teamwork and staff development skills.
• Strong communication skills.
• Problem-solving and innovation skills.

Advantageous but not essential:

• Experience with explosive materials, energetics, firing systems, diagnostics.
• Leading projects.
• Shock modeling and 3D CAD software experience.
