Job description

About the role

Kinneir Dufort (KD) is a world-class user-centred innovation and product development consultancy, serving clients in the medical and consumer health sectors. We are part of the SteriPack Group, which has global contract manufacturing facilities in Europe, the USA and Asia, as well as further design and product development capabilities in New Jersey and Colorado in the USA.

We are looking for an Electronics Engineer looking to apply their expanding electronics expertise to the development of new products and technologies. This is primarily a full-time role (38 hours per week) based out of our Bristol office however a proportion of the work can be conducted at home and we will consider the possibility of part-time working for the right candidate.

As an Electronics Engineer, you will be responsible for the design and development of electronic systems as part of the Electronics & Software team. You will use your knowledge of electronic and physical first principles, analytical skills, practical experimentation, and simulation skills to take electronic systems from concepts through to production. Acting as a consultant, you will likely enjoy the opportunity to discuss challenges with our clients and use your creative and technical skills to identify and bring to life solutions. As your skills evolve, you will have the opportunity to lead small projects, contribute to project planning, proposal writing, specification development and reporting on project activities.

About you

Ultimately you will be passionate about electronics, science and technology, using your knowledge to solve problems. KD operates at a fast pace and as an innovative consultancy, every day is different. You'll enjoy collaborating across a variety of disciplines internally with colleagues and be able to manage external stakeholders and clients, even when things are difficult.

Your skills and experience

Whilst you do not need to meet all of these points, please ensure you meet the majority of them before making an application:

  1. Demonstrable knowledge and experience in Electronic Engineering, or associated sector within engineering or science.
  2. A good understanding of electronics first principles and ability to perform basic hand calculations to check designs.
  3. Experience with 32-bit ARM micro-controllers (e.g. STM32) and/or FPGAs.
  4. A solid understanding of common wired and wireless communications protocols, including I2C, UART, SPI, Bluetooth LE, USB, Ethernet etc.
  5. An understanding of good practice in PCB layout.
  6. Experience with low power circuit design.
  7. Be comfortable when presenting work to others.
  8. Be willing to collaborate with different disciplines in project teams.
  9. Have good commercial awareness and be able to manage your time within defined timescales.

Desirable beneficial experience:

  1. Experience of working in a consultancy environment.
  2. Medical device development experience, such as EN 60601.
  3. Experience designing and testing for compliance, CE/FCC, EMC, radio, safety etc.
  4. Experience developing systems from concept to design for manufacture.
  5. Experience using Altium Designer for schematic capture and PCB layout.
  6. Experience developing embedded software (C/C++).

The salary on offer for this role is between £34,680 to £40,800.

About us

The KD team within SteriPack are based in an iconic building in the vibrant city of Bristol. The characterful Grade 2 listed stone building was originally built as a sugar refinery around 1850. It's now completely refitted, and houses all of our staff plus our workshops, labs, the design studio, an HF usability suite, as well as client meeting spaces. We are in a great central location: the local area is full of independent shops and it is only a short walk up to Park Street, or over to the Harbourside and St Nick's Markets, both of which have regular street food markets.

Our values underpin everything we do.

  • See possibility: we explore the potential in everyone & everything and embrace change to create opportunities.
  • Make a difference: we want to be part of the solution and have courage to act, even when it isn't easy.
  • Stand together: we collaborate seamlessly, value difference and support each other.

We believe strongly in equality and fairness and try hard to do the right thing; we speak up for and support groups who are working to make a difference. Many of our team are also involved in, or run, events in their local communities, making a difference to those around them.

Across the whole of SteriPack our teams are intelligent, hard-working, fun and collaborate brilliantly together to produce creative solutions. We work with some of the most interesting clients in the health sector, from the biggest global businesses to innovative scale-ups, with a particular focus on medical devices (including drug delivery, orthopaedics, surgery and diagnostics) and consumer health.

We're a multi-disciplinary team straddling the earliest stages of product concepting through to manufacturing and end-market delivery. We have experts in research, design, human factors, digital UX, engineering, electronics & software, prototyping, and manufacturing all integrated within one Group.

Do we sound like a good match for you?
