Job summary

Southampton-based electronics design engineer role in a high-tech manufacturing environment. You will own electronics from schematic to multilayer layout, then bench build, soldering and rework prototypes, and assemble cable looms while managing BOMs and supporting verification and manufacturing handover.

Requirements include 2+ years in product electronics, strong analogue/digital design skills, SMT soldering, and a degree in electronics.

Qualifications

• 2+ years of electronics design experience in a product environment.
• Strong analogue and digital circuit design skills.
• Hands-on prototyping, soldering and rework including SMT.
• A degree in electronics or a related engineering subject.
• Altium experience welcome; team will invest to bring you up to speed; EMC/product safety knowledge is a plus.

Responsibilities

• From schematic through to multilayer PCB layout and bench work.
• Build, solder and rework prototypes; assemble cables and looms.
• Manage bills of materials and provide BOM changes.

Electronics Design Engineer

Southampton | £40,000 to £50,000

A high tech manufacturer is hiring an electronics design engineer into a small product development team. This is a broad hardware role for someone whose core strength is board design but who wants more than layout alone, with real ownership of the electronics from the outset.

The work runs from schematic through to multilayer layout, and then onto the bench: building, soldering and reworking prototypes, putting together cable assemblies and looms, managing bills of materials, and supporting the products through verification, compliance and the handover into manufacturing.

Applicants will need:

• Around 2+ years of electronics design experience in a product environment
• A solid grounding in both analogue and digital circuit design
• Practical assembly, soldering and rework skills, including surface mount work
• A degree in electronics or a related engineering subject
• Altium is welcome but not essential, as the team is prepared to invest time in bringing someone up to speed on the toolset. Experience with multilayer stackups, multiple supply rails, EMC or product safety standards would all be useful additions
