Job summary

Caterpillar Inc. is seeking a Control System Engineer in Peterborough to design, develop and enhance electro-mechanical control systems for Caterpillar machines. You will work on integration of electronics and electrical tech to improve performance and value for customers.

The role focuses on developing control systems, mechatronics, and machine automation, requiring strong analytical, troubleshooting and requirements skills. Office-based with travel as needed.

Job Title: Control System Engineer
Salary: £49,513 + Dependent upon experience
Location: Peterborough, UK

The Opportunity

TheCaterpillarTechnologyteam in the UK, has some of the most exciting engineering roles within the Caterpillar global organisation, working on the integration of electronic control systems within multiple Caterpillar products. Integration of the latest Electronics and Electrical technology helps differentiate Caterpillar products from its competitors, by enabling exceptional performance and value to the customer.Our integrated machine systems control all aspects of construction machine operation (engine/transmission or full electric powertrain, hydraulic systems), provide the human-machine interface (operator controls and information displays), and constantly monitor and communicate position, operation, diagnostic and prognostic information to enable machine automation, improved productivity and enhanced serviceability.

What You Will Do

As aElectronic Controls System Engineer,you willdesign, develop, and enhance electro-mechanical systems and mechatronic devices to optimize products and systemsused on Caterpillar machine products.

What You Will Have
  • Analytical Thinking: Knowledge of techniques and tools that promote effective analysis; ability to determine the root cause of organizational problems and create alternative solutions that resolve these problems.
  • Communicating Complex Concepts: Knowledge of effective presentation tools and techniques to ensure clear understanding; ability to use summarization and simplification techniques to explain complex technical concepts in simple, clear language appropriate to the audience.
  • Problem Solving: Knowledge of approaches, tools, techniques for recognizing, anticipating, and resolving organizational, operational or process problems; ability to apply knowledge of problem solving appropriately to diverse situations.
  • Embedded Systems: Knowledge of embedded systems and their applications; ability to develop embedded systems with varying levels of complexity to control the operations of the machine it is embedded within.
  • Requirements Analysis: Knowledge of tools, methods, and techniques of requirement analysis; ability to elicit,analyseand record required business functionality and non-functionality requirements to ensure the success of a system or software development project.
  • Technical Troubleshooting: Knowledge of technical troubleshooting approaches, tools and techniques; ability to anticipate, recognize, and resolve technical issues on hardware, software, application or operation.
Top Candidates mayhave:
  • Off-highway machine control system development experience (or comparable experience within automotive, marine or military vehicle control systems)
  • Vehicle electrical system design experience, including validation and troubleshooting of electrical systems
  • NI test bench experience (Labview/Veristand)
  • J1939 CAN/Ethernet System experience
  • VectorCANape/CANalyzer or similar experience

  • This role is based in the office 5 days per week,<10% travel.
