Job summary

Advanced Biomedical Technology in West London is seeking an Engineering Technician to join a fast‑moving biomedical team. You will assemble mechanical enclosures, robotic components, PCBA sub‑assemblies and piping systems, then diagnose faults in house or at client sites.

The role emphasises hands‑on workmanship within a GMP environment, with training provided. A background in mechanical/electrical instrumentation engineering and a readiness to work in West London are preferred.

Qualifications

  • HNC, Apprenticeship or equivalent in Mechanical, Electrical or Instrumentation Engineering.
  • Good understanding of engineering principles.
  • Able to read and interpret engineering drawings inc some knowledge of BS8888, schematics.
  • Minimum 3 years of practical electromechanical engineering assembly experience in a controlled environment to SOP/work instructions.
  • Demonstrated ability to apply original thought and affect change.
  • Strong structured thinking — able to explain reasoning clearly.
  • Clear, concise and effective communication skills within a benevolent and team‑focused environment.
  • Right to work in UK indefinitely.
  • Commutable of west London or willing to relocate.
  • 5 years plus experience as a technician within an instrumentation, process control, medical devices, robotic or fluidic systems environment.
  • Ability to read simple electrical/fluid schematics and use hand tools.
  • Some soldering to IPC level.

An innovative West London–based biomedical start-up, is designing and manufacturing advanced laboratory and clinical cell‑manufacturing equipment. Their technology is revolutionising healthcare by automating the production of stem cells with minimal human intervention.

The Role

As an Engineering Technician, you will work across a broad range of activities including:

  • Mechanical assembly of enclosures, structures, robotic components, small drives and actuators, PCBAs, small looms assemblies, panels and screens, pumps and piping, filters, heaters
  • In house and client‑based fault finding, rectification and diagnostics
  • Component‑level testing and commissioning
  • Cleanroom, GMP,

This is a hands‑on, varied position within a highly technical and fast‑moving environment. Full training and instruction will be given and previous medical assembly experience is NOT essential.

What We’re Looking For

The bar is high — but open to all backgrounds, even Selection is based on what you can demonstrate now.

  • HNC, Apprenticeship or equivalent in Mechanical, Electrical or Instrumentation Engineering.
  • Good understanding of engineering principles
  • Able to read and interpret engineering drawings inc some knowledge of BS8888, schematics
  • Minimum 3 years of practical electromechanical engineering assembly experience in a controlled environment to SOP/work instructions (eg assembly, manufacturing, machining, test, design or similar) within instrumentation, medical, robotic, aerospace, avionics, defence, nuclear, motorsport or any regulated industry
  • Demonstrated ability to apply original thought and affect change (not simply follow instructions)
  • Strong structured thinking — able to explain reasoning clearly (e.g. using “5 Whys” problem-solving)
  • Clear, concise and effective communication skills within a benevolent and team‑focused environment
  • Right to work in UK indefinitely
  • Commutable of west London or willing to relocate
  • 5 years plus experience as a technician within an instrumentation, process control, medical devices, robotic or fluidic systems environment
