Job summary

Evoke Staffing Ltd in Cheltenham is seeking an Electro-Mechanical Engineer with a strong electrical bias to join a specialist engineering and manufacturing business. The role covers electrical assembly, wiring, testing, commissioning, and customer support on bespoke machinery.

You will work within a multi-disciplinary team, handling both workshop-based building and occasional customer-site installations, with travel in the UK (and occasional overseas).

Qualifications

  • Recognised electrical engineering qualification (City & Guilds, NVQ Level 3 or equivalent).
  • Experience in machinery build, automation, or industrial manufacturing.
  • Strong understanding of industrial electrical control systems.
  • Excellent fault-finding and diagnostic skills.
  • Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics and drawings.
  • Basic mechanical assembly experience.
  • Full UK driving licence; willing to travel UK and overseas.

Responsibilities

  • Electrical assembly, wiring, testing, and commissioning of bespoke machinery.
  • Support mechanical build activities where required during the project lifecycle.
  • Carry out electrical testing, calibration, and fault-finding; diagnose faults throughout build process.
  • Commission machinery in workshop and at customer sites; provide technical support.

Location: Cheltenham, Gloucestershire

Salary: Up to £45,000 depending on experience

Hours: Monday to Friday, Days Only (No Shift Work)

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced Electro-Mechanical Engineer with a strong electrical background to join a specialist engineering and manufacturing business based in Cheltenham.

This varied, hands-on role offers the chance to work on technically advanced, bespoke machinery from initial build and electrical assembly through to testing, commissioning, installation, and customer support. You'll be involved throughout the full project lifecycle, giving you genuine ownership of your work and the opportunity to further develop your technical skills.

The Role

Working within a skilled multi-disciplinary engineering team, you will be responsible for the electrical assembly, wiring, testing, and commissioning of bespoke machinery, while also supporting mechanical build activities where required.

The position is primarily electrically focused and would suit an engineer who enjoys a combination of workshop-based machine building and occasional customer-facing installation and commissioning work.

Key Responsibilities
Electrical Assembly & Wiring
  • Build and wire electrical control panels and operator consoles.
  • Wire bespoke machinery from electrical schematics and wiring diagrams.
  • Install motors, drives, sensors, relays, switches, and associated control equipment.
  • Ensure all electrical work is completed safely and to a high standard.
Machine Build & Testing
  • Support the mechanical assembly and final build of bespoke machinery.
  • Work from engineering drawings, assembly instructions, and technical documentation.
  • Carry out electrical testing, machine calibration, and fault-finding activities.
  • Diagnose and resolve electrical and electro-mechanical faults throughout the build process.
Commissioning & Customer Support
  • Commission machinery within the workshop prior to customer acceptance.
  • Install and commission equipment at customer sites.
  • Carry out servicing, maintenance, and repair activities.
  • Provide professional technical support and build strong customer relationships.
Travel Requirements
  • UK travel approximately once per month, typically involving 2-3 day visits.
  • Occasional international travel as required.
About You

You will be a proactive and practical engineer who enjoys problem-solving, takes pride in delivering high-quality work, and is comfortable working both independently and as part of a collaborative team.

Essential Skills & Experience
  • Recognised Electrical Engineering qualification (City & Guilds, NVQ Level 3, or equivalent).
  • Experience within machinery build, automation, special purpose machinery, or industrial manufacturing environments.
  • Strong understanding of industrial electrical control systems.
  • Excellent electrical fault-finding and diagnostic skills.
  • Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics, engineering drawings, and technical documentation.
  • Basic mechanical assembly experience.
  • Good IT skills for completing reports and documentation.
  • Full UK Driving Licence.
  • Willingness to travel throughout the UK with occasional overseas travel.
Desirable Skills
  • Experience with special purpose machinery, machine tools, or capital equipment.
  • Knowledge of Siemens PLCs and TIA Portal.
  • Previous installation and commissioning experience.
  • Customer-facing engineering experience.
  • Understanding of industrial control systems and machine commissioning processes.
