Job Introduction

The role is fast-paced, requiring you to provide excellent service and minimize impact on customers.

Applicants should have at least English and Maths GCSE Grade C/Level 4, or Functional Skills Level 2 or above. A Level 2 City & Guilds 2339 or equivalent qualification is required, with evidence of qualifications needed. If not already attained, Level 3 City & Guilds 2339 must be completed.

Join us to impact how people heat, light, and fuel their homes, businesses, and vehicles. Keep reading and apply.

*Note: Initial appointment may be at a lower salary until relevant courses and training are completed.

Main Responsibilities

  • Project design, costing, quoting, and the replacement/diversion/reinforcement of electricity network assets, primarily on the high-voltage network.
  • Prepare capital projects and coordinate off-site activities.
  • Design schemes in line with Engineering Directives.
  • Prepare plans, schematics, wayleaves, notices, material schedules, terms, quotations, and agreements.
  • Coordinate with Grade 7 Network Planner to meet network requirements.
  • Determine project scope, methods, and costs; approve projects.
  • Resolve customer complaints.
  • Manage scheme files from setup to completion.
  • Monitor costs, identify variances, and implement corrective actions.
  • Visit sites and work from developer plans.

Join our 6,700 colleagues committed to a clean, fair, and affordable energy future. We offer a supportive, rewarding environment that empowers success. Our values include doing the right thing, finding better ways, and making things happen. We aim to help you build a career you can be proud of, using your expertise and the latest technology.

Ideal candidates may already have experience as a Grade 5 Network Planner, understanding procedures, standards, and customer needs. Alternatively, candidates with an electrical background and relevant qualifications, such as internal electrical planning experience, are encouraged to apply. Strong communication skills are essential for coordinating jobs and explaining issues clearly. As the role involves diary control, resilience, organization, and workload prioritization are important. Team players with a proactive, consultative approach thrive here. Experience with iPads, computers, and relevant software is required. Mobility around the area may be necessary for standby duties.

National Grid Electricity Distribution is committed to safeguarding the interests of the Company, colleagues, and customers. This role is subject to a satisfactory DBS check, with screening levels depending on the role. Some roles require triannual checks.
