Job summary

Mears Group in Oxford is seeking a skilled electrician for a full-time, field-based role covering maintenance, repair, and installation across void and occupied properties.

You will perform reactive repairs, inspections, and installations while ensuring homes are safe and compliant for residents. A company van, fuel card, and uniform accompany this hands-on position.

Qualifications

  • NVQ Level 3 in Electrical Installations or equivalent.
  • City & Guilds 18th Edition wiring regulations.
  • AM2 or equivalent qualification is desirable.

Responsibilities

  • Perform reactive repairs to lighting, sockets, fuseboards and other electrical systems.
  • Inspect and test electrical installations for safety and compliance.
  • Replace faulty components such as switches and circuit breakers.
  • Work independently or in a team to meet daily repair targets.
  • Communicate clearly with tenants about repairs and outcomes.
  • Maintain clean, safe work areas and follow health & safety policies.
  • Respond to emergency call-outs; may include out-of-hours work.
  • Undertake installation, service and maintenance across domestic properties.
  • Utilise IT systems to manage workload and prioritise repairs.

Overview

Electrician — Location: Oxford. This is a full-time permanent role with a company van and fuel card. 42.5 hours per week (8:00–17:00, Monday to Friday).

We’re seeking a skilled and qualified electrician to join our team. This is a hands-on, field-based role responsible for maintenance, repair, and installation of electrical systems across void and occupied properties. You’ll help ensure homes are safe, compliant, and ready for residents through reactive repairs, planned maintenance, or support for wider refurbishment projects. The position offers opportunities for growth within a growing presence in the area.

Responsibilities
  • Perform reactive repairs to lighting circuits, sockets, fuseboards, and other electrical systems.
  • Inspect and test electrical installations to ensure safety and regulatory compliance.
  • Replace or repair faulty components such as switches, outlets, light fittings, and circuit breakers.
  • Work independently or as part of a team to meet daily repair targets.
  • Communicate clearly with tenants or residents about the nature of repairs and expected outcomes.
  • Maintain clean and safe work areas after completing repairs.
  • Adhere to health and safety policies and procedures.
  • Provide high levels of customer care at all times.
  • Respond to emergency call-outs when required, including out-of-hours shifts if applicable.
  • Undertake installation, service, repair, and maintenance of a broad range of domestic properties.
  • Use relevant IT systems to manage and prioritise workload to complete repairs in a timely manner.
Role Criteria
  • NVQ Level 3 in Electrical Installations, including AM2; City & Guilds 18th Edition (if you have 17th edition, you can work through your 18th edition).
  • Full UK driving licence with a clean driving record.
  • Previous domestic, social housing experience.

Additional Information
