Job summary

Serco at HMP Doncaster is seeking an Electrician to perform planned and reactive electrical maintenance, fault finding and installation work to keep a secure environment safe and operational.

The role involves reading technical drawings, installing electrical plant, and working with the maintenance team to ensure high safety and performance standards across the site.

Qualifications

  • City and Guilds Electrical Certificate or equivalent.
  • Completed recognised electrical apprenticeship.
  • BS7671 Wiring Regulations (current edition) qualification.
  • At least five years’ electrical trade experience after apprenticeship.
  • Strong problem-solving, attention to detail and ability to work independently.

Responsibilities

  • Carry out fault finding, repairs and defect rectification on electrical plant and equipment.
  • Complete planned preventative maintenance in line with statutory and contractual requirements.
  • Install new electrical plant, equipment and systems as required.
  • Inspect, test and maintain electrical distribution systems including LV and HV where trained.
  • Read and interpret technical drawings and wiring diagrams to support repairs and installations.
  • Collaborate with maintenance team, maintaining safety, compliance and performance.

Participation in out of hours rota - On Call Payments £160 per week

As an Electrician in our Justice and Immigration Facilities Management team, you’ll carry out planned and reactive electrical maintenance, fault finding, and installation work that helps keep a secure environment safe, compliant, and operational. Your expertise will play a vital role in ensuring essential services are available when they’re needed most.

What You’ll Do As An Electrician
  • Carry out fault finding, repairs, and defect rectification on electrical plant and equipment.
  • Complete planned preventative maintenance activities in line with statutory and contractual requirements.
  • Install new electrical plant, equipment, and associated systems as required.
  • Inspect, test, and maintain electrical distribution systems, including low-voltage and high-voltage infrastructure where authorised and trained.
  • Read and interpret technical drawings, wiring diagrams, and maintenance documentation to support effective repairs and installations.
  • Work collaboratively with the wider maintenance team, maintaining high standards of safety, compliance, and performance across the site.
Does this sound like you?
  • Hold a City and Guilds Electrical Certificate or equivalent recognised electrical trade qualification.
  • Have completed a recognised electrical apprenticeship.
  • Qualified to BS7671 (current edition of the Institution of Engineering and Technology Wiring Regulations).
  • Have at least five years’ electrical trade experience following completion of your apprenticeship.
  • Demonstrate strong problem-solving skills, attention to detail, and the ability to work independently in a complex operational environment.

Vetting and checks

An Enhanced Level 1 check is required for this role. This includes spent and unspent convictions, cautions, and any relevant information held by local police, in accordance with the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act and safeguarding requirements.
