The Electrician is responsible for the safe installation, testing, commissioning, maintenance, and repair of solar photovoltaic (PV) systems and associated electrical infrastructure. The role ensures all electrical work complies with statutory regulations, industry standards, and Tarven Solar Energy’s quality and safety requirements.
The role also includes carrying out electrical installation work on domestic properties including new build developments, electrical installation condition reports (commercial & domestic).
Key Responsibilities
- Install and commission solar PV systems, inverters, batteries, charge controllers, and balance-of-system components
- Perform AC and DC electrical installations in residential and commercial environments
- Read and interpret electrical drawings, schematics, and single-line diagrams
- Conduct system testing, fault-finding, and performance verification
- Other installation works include electrical installation of new build development sites as well as generic electrical work such as EV chargers, changing lights etc in domestic and commercial properties. As well as carrying out Electrical Installation Condition Reports.
Maintenance & Repairs
- Carry out routine inspection, preventative maintenance, and corrective repairs on solar PV systems
- Diagnose and resolve electrical faults in PV arrays, inverters, batteries, and distribution boards
- Replace defective components and ensure systems are restored to optimal performance
- Report to Operations Manager & Director
- Work closely with operations manager and installation teams
- Provide clear technical feedback and site reports
- Support junior technicians and apprentices when required
- Liaise professionally with clients and site stakeholders
Qualifications & Certifications
- Level 3 Electrical Installation with an NVQ. Gold card JIB (preferred)
- 2391 Test & Inspection (preferred)
Experience
- Minimum 2–5 years experience as a qualified electrician
- Experience working on residential and/or commercial projects
- Strong knowledge of AC/DC electrical systems
- Ability to troubleshoot and resolve electrical issues with minimal supervision
- Competent use of electrical testing equipment (multimeters, insulation testers, etc.)
- Good understanding of electrical codes, standards, and best practices
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality workmanship
- Good communication and teamwork skills
Physical & Work Requirements
- Ability to work at heights and in outdoor environments
- Physically fit to handle tools, equipment, and materials
- Willingness to travel to project sites as required
- Must be able to pass a DBS check
- Candidate must be based in South East London or North Kent, majority of the work is in this area. The candidate would be expected to work outside this area from time to time.
