The machine generates extremely bright light that is directed into laboratories known as beamlines. Scientists use the light to find solutions to humanity’s most critical challenges, from health, food security and biotechnology to energy, climate change and advanced materials.
Diamond is in the process of upgrading to a fourth-generation synchrotron, generating a brighter and more coherent light. This will provide enhanced imaging and analysis capabilities, helping the UK to remain at the forefront of scientific discovery.
We now have an opportunity for an Electrical Technician or Senior Electrical Technician to assist the To provide support during installation, commissioning, upgrades and operational activities related to the technical systems of the Diamond accelerators (LINAC, Booster and Storage Ring) to enable delivery of synchrotron light to the high quality required by Beamlines.

Applicants will be considered at either Electrical Technician or Senior Electrical Technician level, depending on the strength of your skills, experience and qualifications.
This is not a desk-based role, but you will have access to a shared office space as required.
You will have completed a recognised Apprenticeship in an Engineering discipline, have a HNC (or equivalent) qualification or demonstrate significant equivalent experience.
You will also have experience in the following areas:
For the Senior Electrical Technician,you will also have a BS7671 Wiring Regulations Qualification or equivalent knowledge.
And experience in the following areas:

This position meets a SOC code that is on the UK Government’s Temporary Shortage List. This brings with it restrictions on our ability to sponsor non-UK & Irish nationals.
At Technician level we can potentially sponsor those individuals that have already been sponsored in the UK since before 4th April 2024, as well as those individuals that meet the eligibility requirements of the new entrant rate, however, such employment could only be on a fixed term basis for the duration of your new entrant rate eligibility.
At Senior Technician level we could sponsor any eligible individuals, however, under recent changes to the UK Immigration system, such employment could only be on a fixed term basis, and individuals that are relocating to the UK to take up employment against a position matched to a Temporary Shortage List SOC code would not be able to bring dependants with them to the UK.
