Job description

We are seeking an experienced Electrical Technical Support Engineer to be based at our Hampton Sewage Treatment Works. You will be part of a team providing all-around technical support to the Electrical Services team across process operations and Capital Delivery. This includes scrutinizing the installation of new assets to ensure they meet TWUL asset standards and delivering directly managed projects.

At Thames Water, we operate a significant number of high voltage (HV) and low voltage (LV) electrical power networks that are central to water production and waste treatment for 15 million customers.

The role of the Electrical Technical Support Engineer is to maintain the safe and reliable operation of these critical assets. A high level of knowledge in electrical technology, safety procedures, and providing expert support to core operations is essential. The team involved in frontline operation and maintenance requires continuous technical support for problem resolution, solutions implementation, asset upgrades, and incident investigation.

What you’ll be doing
  • Providing technical support and advice on electrical systems operation and maintenance, including risk management.
  • Supporting high voltage and complex low voltage asset upgrade schemes and delivering capital programmes.
  • Investigating electrical system failures and unsafe events, producing reports.
  • Managing maintenance reports, asset registers, manuals, and technical information.
  • Conducting asset surveys, site inspections, and delivering solutions.
  • Mentoring colleagues for Authorised Person appointments and developing technical skills.
  • Reviewing risk assessments and safety procedures, including contractor safety protocols.
  • Participating in out-of-hours support to electrical networks, with appointment as an Authorised Person through a development plan.

Base Location: Hampton Coal Wharf - TW12 2ES.

Working hours: 38 hours per week, Monday, plus out-of-hours rota with additional pay.

Candidate requirements
  • HNC, NVQ Level 3 in electrical engineering or equivalent experience.
  • Training in BS7671 electrical installation requirements.
  • Appointment as an Authorised Person for HV or LV systems.
  • Experience in industrial electrical power and engineering.
  • Knowledge of Electricity at Work Regulations.
  • Experience in large industrial utilities or water companies.
  • Understanding of health and safety regulations, especially electrical safety.
  • Operational experience as an Authorised Person.
  • Ability to engage with operational teams, contractors, and stakeholders.
  • Mentoring and reporting skills.
Benefits
  • Salary up to £58,000, plus car allowance, tools, and PPE.
  • Annual leave starting at 24 days, increasing with service, plus bank holidays.
  • Contributory pension scheme up to 12% (2x employee contribution).
  • Annual personal medical assessments.
  • Access to benefits scheme and wellbeing offers.
