Job summary

British Steel in Scunthorpe is seeking an experienced Electrical Team Leader to guide maintenance and improvement work in the blast furnace area. You will lead craft groups, plan daily electrical tasks, and respond to breakdowns to keep asset reliability high.

Candidates should have an NVQ Level 3 or equivalent in electrical trades, and proven experience in electrical maintenance within heavy engineering. Training will be provided where needed, and a strong safety mindset is essential.

Qualifications

• To be considered, you must be qualified to a minimum NVQ Level 3, or equivalent in a relevant electrical trade or have served a recognised apprenticeship.
• Experience in electrical maintenance and fault finding within heavy engineering is preferred.
• Ability to adapt to new equipment is essential.
• Knowledge of steelmaking processes is beneficial but not required; training will be provided.

Responsibilities

• Lead craft work groups made up of internal staff and contractors, ensuring safety and efficiency.
• Plan, supervise and execute daily electrical maintenance and improvement tasks to support asset reliability.
• Respond to breakdowns and diagnose issues across motors, drives, sensors, PLCs, and related systems.
• Work with equipment including motors, drives, sensors, instrumentation, PLCs, SCADA/HMI, MCC, hydraulic and pneumatic systems, gas and water systems.

Salary - £46,241.97 p.a.

What you need to know about the role

We have an excellent opportunity for an experienced Electrical Craft person or Team Leader to join the engineering team at our Blast Furnace.

In this role, you will lead craft work groups made up of both internal employees and contractors ensuring that all tasks are carried out safely and efficiently.

Your primary responsibility will be to plan, supervise and execute daily electrical maintenance and improvement tasks ensuring they are completed on time to support asset reliability and use your skillset to respond to arising breakdowns.

You will work on many different types of electrical and engineering equipment that includes motors, drives, sensors, instrumentation, PLCs, SCADA/HMI, MCC (power centres), hydraulic and pneumatic systems, gas systems and water systems.

What we need to know about you

To be considered for this position you must be qualified to a minimum NVQ Level 3, or equivalent in a relevant electrical trade or have served a recognised apprenticeship .

Ideally you will have experience of electrical maintenance and fault finding within a commercial or heavy engineering environment. Essential to the role is the ability to adapt to new equipment. You must be flexible, have a desire to learn and develop and an ability to adapt to new equipment.

Knowledge of steelmaking processes would be beneficial but is not essential, as extensive training will be provided.
