Job summary

TEC Partners - Technical Recruitment Specialists is seeking an experienced Electrical Systems Engineer in Waterbeach. You will design and implement electrical control systems, from concept to commissioning, collaborating with mechanical design teams to ensure robust machine controls.

The role requires 6+ years in industrial automation, strong electrical design and PLC programming with Siemens/AB, and experience with EPLAN, HMI, and safety standards.

Qualifications

  • Degree, HNC/HND or equivalent in Electrical/Electronic/Control Engineering.
  • 6+ years in industrial automation, machinery or similar engineering environment.
  • Strong electrical design and schematic experience.
  • Experience with EPLAN or similar electrical design software.
  • PLC programming experience, ideally Siemens or Allen-Bradley.

Responsibilities

  • Design electrical control systems including schematics, panel layouts and BOMs.
  • Develop and modify PLC programmes (Siemens and/or Allen Bradley).
  • Design and integrate motion control and servo systems.
  • Develop HMI and PC-based control systems.
  • Design machinery safety systems per relevant standards.
  • Integrate electrical and mechanical systems.
  • Support FAT activities and machine commissioning.
  • Provide technical support to service teams and customers.
  • Work with senior leadership on project delivery.
  • Identify opportunities to improve existing electrical and controls systems.
  • Own projects and contribute to modernisation of control systems.

Job description

A specialist engineering and manufacturing business operating within a highly technical, advanced manufacturing environment.

The company designs and builds bespoke industrial equipment and automated systems for customers across a range of technically demanding sectors. Due to continued growth and a strong order book, they are looking to strengthen their electrical and controls engineering team.

The Role

As an Electrical Systems Engineer, you will be responsible for electrical and controls engineering across the full machine lifecycle, from initial concept and design through to commissioning.

Working closely with mechanical design and development teams, you will play a key role in delivering robust, compliant and high-performing machine control systems.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Design electrical control systems, including schematics, panel layouts and BOMs
  • Develop and modify PLC programmes, ideally using Siemens and/or Allen Bradley
  • Design and integrate motion control and servo systems
  • Develop HMI and PC-based control systems
  • Design machinery safety systems in line with relevant standards
  • Integrate electrical and mechanical systems

  • Take ownership of projects and contribute to the ongoing modernisation of control systems
About You

You will be an experienced Electrical, Controls or Systems Engineer with a strong background in industrial automation, special purpose machinery or capital equipment.

  • Degree, HNC/HND or equivalent experience in Electrical, Electronic or Control Engineering
  • 6+ years' experience within industrial automation, machinery or a similar engineering environment
  • Strong electrical design and schematic experience
  • Experience using EPLAN or similar electrical design software
  • PLC programming experience, ideally Siemens or Allen Bradley
  • Experience working with bespoke machinery or capital equipment
  • Good understanding of machinery safety and relevant standards
  • Comfortable working autonomously and taking ownership of projects
  • Motion control, servo or CNC experience
  • Experience with Wonderware, LabVIEW or PC-based HMI systems
  • Experience working across multidisciplinary engineering projects
  • 35 days annual leave including bank holidays
