Job summary

Qualifications

• 5+ years' experience in electrical design for industrial machinery or automation.
• Proficiency with EPlan Electric P8 and electrical schematics.
• Experience designing control panels and power distribution.
• Knowledge of IEC 60204-1, ISO 13849 and CE/UKCA requirements.
• Experience producing complete electrical documentation (schematics, BOMs, build notes).
• DFM understanding and collaboration across multidisciplinary teams.

Responsibilities

• Produce electrical schematics, wiring diagrams and single-line diagrams using EPlan Electric P8.
• Design control panels, power distribution, motion control panels and wiring harnesses.
• Perform electrical calculations including power/load analysis and safety assessments.
• Ensure CE/UKCA compliance and relevant safety standards.
• Manage design documentation, BOMs and configuration control.
• Support prototype builds, testing and design validation.
• Collaborate with mechanical, software, manufacturing and quality teams.
• Liaise with suppliers to support production and resolve issues.
• Provide technical support to internal engineering teams.
• Contribute to continuous improvement, engineering standards and future development.

Are you an experienced Electrical Design Engineer looking to work on cutting-edge automation and advanced manufacturing technology?

We're looking for an Electrical Design Engineer to join an innovative engineering company developing bespoke automated equipment for high-tech manufacturing environments. This is an opportunity to work on technically challenging, low-volume, high-value machinery where you'll take ownership of designs from concept through to production.

Working within a multidisciplinary engineering team, you'll design sophisticated electrical systems for precision automation equipment while contributing to the development of next-generation products used by global manufacturers.

The Role

You'll be responsible for the electrical design of complex capital equipment, producing high-quality schematics, control panel designs and documentation while ensuring compliance with relevant electrical safety standards.

Key Responsibilities

• Produce electrical schematics, wiring diagrams and single-line diagrams using EPlan Electric P8.
• Design control panels, power distribution systems, motion control panels and wiring harnesses.
• Perform electrical calculations including power/load analysis, component selection and safety assessments.
• Ensure designs comply with CE/UKCA requirements and relevant industry standards.
• Manage design documentation, BOMs and configuration control.
• Support prototype builds, testing and design validation.
• Collaborate closely with mechanical, software, manufacturing and quality teams throughout the product lifecycle.
• Liaise with suppliers to support production and resolve technical issues.
• Provide technical support to internal engineering teams when required.
• Contribute to continuous improvement, engineering standards and future product development.

About You

You'll have experience designing electrical systems for industrial machinery or automated equipment and enjoy solving complex engineering challenges.

• 5+ years' experience in electrical design for industrial machinery, automation or capital equipment.
• Strong proficiency with EPlan Electric P8.
• Experience designing control panels, motion control systems and power distribution.
• Knowledge of electrical safety standards including IEC 60204-1, ISO 13849 and CE/UKCA compliance.
• Experience producing complete electrical documentation including schematics, BOMs and build instructions.
• Good understanding of Design for Manufacture (DFM).
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
• Excellent communication skills and the ability to work within multidisciplinary engineering teams.
• Experience with laser systems, optics or precision automation equipment.
• Product development from concept through to production.
• Experience with Autodesk Vault or similar document management systems.
• Six Sigma, 8D or Root Cause Analysis.
• Chartered Engineer status (or working towards).
