Job summary

Velocity Recruitment is seeking an Electrical Shift Engineer for a major data centre contract in Canary Wharf. You will perform proactive and reactive electrical maintenance to ensure continuous operation of critical systems, while supporting the maintenance team and new Authorized Person development.

Experience with UPS, generators, fire alarms, and building management systems is advantageous. The role offers on-site work and opportunities for progression within six months.

Qualifications

• Electrical engineering qualifications from a recognised institution.
• HV certification or prior training.
• Experience in facilities management or building services.
• Experience in a similar role.

Responsibilities

• Carry out routine electrical maintenance on critical building systems.
• Respond to BAS alarms and perform emergency repairs as needed.
• Develop strong working relationships with staff and client teams.
• Complete and record job sheets within SLA timelines.
• Maintain professional image and deliver high standards of customer service.
• Assist other engineering tasks including basic fabric, electrical, or plumbing works.
• Adhere to KPI/SLA requirements and health and safety rules.
• Monitor subcontractors on site and ensure compliance.
• Support AP-readiness and integrate with site operations.

Job Title - Shift Engineer (Electrical)

About the Role:

My client is a leading global provider of integrated facilities management and they are recruiting for an Electrical Shift Engineer to join a well-known Data Centre contract, located in Canary Wharf. The engineer will be responsible for proactive and reactive building maintenance and repair services for client contracts. They will be responsible for providing support, preventive maintenance, and repairs on equipment and systems. This is a great opportunity for an engineer looking for career progression, as my client looks to invest and qualify the engineer to act as an appointed Authorized Person (AP) within 6 months from onboarding.

Purpose of the Job

To assist the maintenance team, ensuring safe and full operation of Hard Services, for one of my clients well known leisure contracts, whilst taking consideration for the clients, staff, visitors & other service provider's needs. To carry out Planned Preventative Maintenance (PPM), Proactive and Reactive works to all Electrical systems in accordance with agreed service levels. Working independently or in a team to complete all maintenance and servicing tasks. The engineer must be able to demonstrate relevant knowledge of plant within a typical commercial environment. Experience with HVAC heating systems, Air Handling Units, Fire alarms and associated equipment, Building management systems, Hot and cold-water systems including pumps and water temperature control would be advantageous.

Key Responsibilities

• 1. Ensure that routine maintenance is carried out to all critical building plant, equipment and systems to meet and exceed expectations, and agreed service level agreements.
• 2. Respond to Building Management System alarms, and effect emergency repairs as needed.
• 3. To develop a good working relationship with all members of staff and the various client's staff & Contractors.
• 4. Complete and return job sheets to allow records to be kept up to date. Ensure all tasks issued are completed in agreed SLA times & if there is a risk this cannot be achieved then seek assistance from Supervisors
• 5. Ensure a professional image is presented to clients and visitors and ensure excellence in customer service is delivered and promoted at all times.
• 6. Assist Engineering staff in duties as required. These can include low level fabric tasks such as touch up painting, electrical/mechanical tasks or basic plumbing tasks.
• 7. Ensure an awareness and compliance to the contractual KPI's/SLA's.
• 8. To ensure tasks as directed are completed with the appropriate H&S awareness/implementation.
• 9. Overseeing and monitoring of sub-contractors works whilst they are on site undertaking maintenance

Qualifications / Experience

• * Electrical Engineering Certifications from a recognised institution (NVQ / GGs).
• * HV Certified / Previously trained
• * Previous FM / Building services experience
• * Previous experience in a similar role
• * Critical experience (Desirable)
• * Knowledge of business-critical services i.e., UPS, Generators and Comms Rooms etc
