Job summary

ARCA Consulting Ltd is seeking an Electrical Design Engineer/Senior Electrical Design Engineer for a Bristol-based contract role. You will contribute hands-on to technically complex projects, delivering high-quality electrical design documentation and data to support design, manufacture, assembly and testing of control systems.

The role focuses on creating design outputs, managing documentation and collaborating with wider engineering teams, with on-site presence and remote support as needed.

Qualifications

• Proven experience as Electrical Design Engineer or Senior Electrical Design Engineer.
• Experience producing electrical drawings and technical documentation.
• Practical experience using EPLAN Electrical CAD.
• Experience creating electrical schematics, control panel layouts, cable schedules and harness drawings.
• Experience producing 3D representations of electrical control panels.
• Familiarity with Bills of Materials management.
• Understanding of electrical control panel design and related electrical systems.
• Ability to translate requirements into high-quality design outputs.
• Strong attention to detail and organized documentation management.
• Ability to work independently while collaborating with wider engineering teams.
• Knowledge of EN60204, ISO12100, EMC, EN13849, NFPA79 and UL508A would be advantageous.

Responsibilities

• Create and manage electrical design documentation and engineering deliverables.
• Produce CDFs, GA drawings and sub-module schematics.
• Generate cable schedules and 3D digital twins of electrical control panels using EPLAN.
• Create detailed electrical harness drawings.
• Manage Bills of Materials within Arena PLM.
• Create build and test instructions within Polarion.
• Ensure documentation meets technical and operational requirements.
• Have documents reviewed by Lead Electrical Design Engineer before release.
• Support development, review and refinement of electrical designs through the project lifecycle.
• Provide input and support cross-functional engineering activities.
• Assist integration, build and commissioning activities as necessary.

Electrical Design Engineer / Senior Electrical Design Engineer – Contract - Bristol

6-Month+ Contract | Outside IR35 | Ideally 2 Days per Week Onsite

We are seeking an experienced Electrical Design Engineer / Senior Electrical Design Engineer to support an innovative engineering business operating at the forefront of advanced motion simulation technology.

This is an excellent opportunity for a hands‑on electrical design contractor to contribute to technically complex engineering projects, taking responsibility for the creation and delivery of high‑quality electrical design documentation, drawings and associated engineering data.

The successful contractor will have strong experience in electrical design, ideally using EPLAN, with the ability to produce detailed engineering documentation to support the design, manufacture, assembly and testing of sophisticated electrical control systems.

Key Responsibilities

The primary focus of this contract will be the creation and management of electrical design documentation and engineering deliverables, including:

• Creation of CDFs, General Arrangement (GA) drawings and sub-module schematics.
• Production of cable schedules and 3D digital twins of electrical control panels using EPLAN.
• Creation of detailed electrical harness drawings.
• Creation and management of relevant Bills of Materials (BoMs) within Arena PLM.
• Creation of build and test instructions within Polarion
• Ensuring all electrical design documentation is accurate, complete and meets the required technical and operational requirements.
• Ensuring all documentation is reviewed by the Lead Electrical Design Engineer prior to formal release.
• Supporting the development, review and refinement of electrical designs throughout the project lifecycle.
• Providing technical input and supporting cross‑functional engineering activities where required.
• Supporting integration, build and commissioning activities as necessary.

Skills & Experience

We are particularly interested in contractors with the following experience:

• Proven experience as an Electrical Design Engineer or Senior Electrical Design Engineer.
• Strong experience producing electrical engineering drawings and technical documentation.
• Practical experience using EPLAN Electrical CAD is highly desirable.
• Experience creating electrical schematics, control panel layouts, cable schedules and harness drawings.
• Experience producing 3D digital representations of electrical control panels.
• Familiarity with Bills of Materials management.
• Understanding of electrical control panel design and associated electrical systems.
• Ability to interpret engineering requirements and translate these into accurate, high‑quality design outputs.
• Strong attention to detail and an organised approach to managing technical documentation.
• Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively with wider engineering teams.
• Knowledge of relevant electrical engineering standards, including EN60204, ISO12100, EMC, EN13849, NFPA79 and UL508A, would also be advantageous.
