Job summary

KBR, Inc. is seeking an Electrical Safety Engineer in Glasgow. You will support the safety and operational capability of essential infrastructure within a high-hazard environment.

Your role involves assessing, maintaining, and improving electrical systems, ensuring safety compliance, and contributing to Periodic Safety Reviews. The position is hybrid, requiring 3 days in the office weekly and strong electrical engineering knowledge.

Qualifications

  • Broad electrical engineering experience, ideally including HV/MV and LV distribution systems.
  • Knowledge of protection systems and Control & Instrumentation (C&I).
  • Experience with electrical machines like synchronous motors and diesel alternators.
  • Familiarity with Periodic Safety Reviews or similar activities.

Role Summary

You’ll join a specialist engineering team supporting the safety and operational capability of critical infrastructure within a high‑hazard environment. In this role, you will contribute to assessing, maintaining, and improving electrical systems that underpin essential facilities. Working within a design authority function, you’ll help ensure infrastructure remains safe, compliant, and fit for purpose.

Key Responsibilities

You will take responsibility for supporting the specification, assessment, and ongoing safety of electrical infrastructure within a high‑hazard environment. This includes producing and reviewing design packages, carrying out plant walkdowns, and contributing to safety reviews. You will assess maintenance procedures, infrastructure condition, and ageing mechanisms to ensure continued safe operation, while also defining reliability and operational requirements. In addition, you will provide practical, cost‑effective solutions for design changes, ensure outputs from safety‑related contracts meet requirements, and promote a strong safety and security culture throughout your work.

Required Experience
  • Broad electrical engineering experience, ideally including:
  • HV/MV and LV distribution systems
  • Protection systems
  • Control & Instrumentation (C&I)
  • Electrical machines (e.g. synchronous motors, frequency changers, diesel alternators)
  • Experience supporting Periodic Safety Reviews (PSR) or similar safety assurance activities.
  • Strong understanding of UK/international design standards.
  • Ability to make evidence-based decisions using multiple data sources.
Experience In Nuclear Or Other High-hazard Industries (desirable)
Location

The role is Hybrid where 3 days per week will be spent in the office in Glasgow City Centre.
