Purpose of the Role
The Project Engineer – Electrical serves as a key technical and project coordination link between customers, internal stakeholders, and manufacturing teams.
The position is responsible for supporting the successful delivery of high-voltage electrical equipment projects, including power transformers, shunt reactors, and associated assets. The role combines engineering expertise, project coordination, technical oversight, and customer engagement to ensure projects are delivered safely, efficiently, and in accordance with contractual, technical, and regulatory requirements.
Key Responsibilities
1. Project Coordination and Delivery
- Support the planning, coordination, and execution of electrical engineering projects.
- Monitor project milestones, deliverables, and technical progress.
- Identify, track, and help resolve project risks, issues, and engineering changes.
- Coordinate with internal departments and manufacturing facilities to support on-time project delivery.
2. Technical Interface and Engineering Coordination
- Act as the primary technical point of contact between customers and engineering teams.
- Interpret customer specifications and translate them into clear engineering requirements.
- Ensure proposed designs align with project specifications, applicable standards, and manufacturing capabilities.
3. Design Review and Technical Oversight
- Lead or support design review meetings with customers and project stakeholders.
- Review and validate:
- General Arrangement (GA) drawings
- Electrical and insulation designs
- Losses, impedance, and thermal performance calculations
- Identify design issues and coordinate corrective actions with relevant teams.
4. Customer Technical Support
- Provide timely technical support throughout the project lifecycle.
- Respond to customer technical queries and requests for information.
- Deliver practical engineering solutions that address project and site-specific requirements.
5. Compliance and Standards
- Ensure adherence to:
- UK regulations and industry standards (e.g. BS and EN standards)
- IEC standards
- Customer technical specifications
- Support compliance with quality, safety, and regulatory requirements throughout all project phases.
6. Documentation and Drawing Management
- Review engineering drawings and technical documentation before customer submission.
- Ensure documentation is accurate, consistent, and technically complete.
- Assist with the preparation and review of technical reports and project records.
7. Technical Communication and Stakeholder Engagement
- Communicate technical concepts clearly to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
- Participate in technical meetings, design clarification discussions, and issue resolution activities.
- Support management of RFIs, technical queries, and engineering deviations.
8. Sales and Tendering Support
- Tender and bid preparation

Person Specification
Essential Qualifications and Experience
- Degree in Electrical Engineering or a related discipline.
- Experience working with high-voltage electrical equipment, such as transformers, reactors, or similar assets.
- Strong knowledge of electrical engineering design principles and relevant industry standards.
- Experience in project engineering, project delivery, or technical coordination roles.
- Strong communication, presentation, and stakeholder management skills.
- Ability to work effectively within international and multidisciplinary teams.
- Knowledge of power transmission and distribution systems.
- Experience working with transformer manufacturers or utilities.
- Understanding of UK electricity industry requirements and regulatory frameworks.
- Membership of, or progress towards membership of, a relevant professional engineering institution.
