Job summary

London Borough of Redbridge seeks a practical, qualified electrician/maintenance technician to join its responsive maintenance team in Ilford. You will carry out planned and reactive repairs across Redbridge's property portfolio, with core electrical work and additional multi-trade tasks to support residents, schools and staff.

The role requires City & Guilds 2365/Level 3 Electrical Installation, 18th Edition BS 7671, and a valid UK driving licence.

Qualifications

• Electrical installations, repairs, testing and fault-finding with wiring arrangements.
• Ability to carry out basic plumbing, heating, joinery or general building repairs.
• Knowledge of electrical safety, health & safety at work and working in occupied premises.
• Full valid clean UK manual driving licence is essential; own transport or council vehicle provided.
• Good verbal communication and ability to log work via mobile devices.

Responsibilities

• Carry out electrical installations, repairs, testing and fault-finding - including lighting, power, circuits, consumer units and fixed wiring
• Complete multi-trade tasks: basic plumbing, heating, joinery, plastering and general building repairs
• Attend emergency call-outs (shared rota) - electrical faults, safety issues and urgent repairs
• Inspect, test and maintain electrical systems; complete periodic checks and certificates
• Diagnose faults accurately; specify and carry out repairs efficiently and safely
• Record all work digitally - log jobs, materials used, time taken, and upload photos via our mobile system
• Work to strict health & safety standards, wiring regulations (BS 7671) and council policies
• Liaise directly with residents, tenants and site staff - explain work clearly and courteously
• Support planned maintenance programmes and minor improvement projects
