Job summary

Reed Engineering & Manufacturing is seeking an experienced Electrical Maintenance Engineer for a leading heavy engineering site. You will maintain and improve electrical systems and production equipment to maximise plant availability and safety.

The role covers fault diagnosis, maintenance of motors, VSDs, PLCs, and control panels, with a focus on continuous improvement and safety compliance within a heavy industrial environment.

Qualifications

• Time-served electrical engineering apprenticeship or equivalent.
• 2• NVQ Level 3 / City & Guilds / HNC or equivalent in Electrical Engineering.
• 3• Previous electrical maintenance experience in heavy manufacturing or process environments.
• 4• Strong fault-finding and diagnostic skills.
• 5• Experience with three-phase systems, motors, VSDs, PLCs, and electrical distribution.
• 6• Ability to read electrical schematics and engineering drawings.
• 7• Knowledge of electrical health and safety regulations.

Responsibilities

• Carry out planned preventative and reactive maintenance on plant equipment.
• Diagnose and repair electrical faults on production machinery and ancillary equipment.
• Maintain motors, drives, inverters, PLCs, control panels, instrumentation and process controls.
• Perform fault finding on electrical, automation and control systems.
• Support continuous improvement to enhance machinery performance and reduce downtime.
• Participate in breakdown investigations and root cause analysis.
• Assist with installation, commissioning and modification of plant equipment.
• Ensure maintenance activities comply with site health and safety procedures.
• Accurately complete maintenance records using the site's CMMS system.
• Support shutdowns, projects and capital investment activities as required.
• Work with production and engineering teams to maximise operational efficiency.

About the Role

We are seeking an experienced Electrical Maintenance Engineer to join a leading heavy engineering manufacturing operation. The successful candidate will be responsible for maintaining and improving a wide range of electrical systems and production equipment, ensuring maximum plant availability, reliability, and safety within a heavy industrial environment.

Key Responsibilities

• Carry out planned preventative maintenance (PPM) and reactive maintenance on plant equipment.
• Diagnose and repair electrical faults on production machinery and ancillary equipment.
• Maintain motors, drives, inverters, PLCs, control panels, instrumentation, and process control systems.
• Perform fault finding on electrical, automation, and control systems.
• Support continuous improvement activities to enhance machinery performance and reduce downtime.
• Participate in breakdown investigations and root cause analysis.

Essential Requirements

• Time-served Electrical Engineering apprenticeship.
• NVQ Level 3, City & Guilds, HNC, or equivalent qualification in Electrical Engineering.
• Previous electrical maintenance experience within a heavy manufacturing, process, or industrial environment.
• Strong fault-finding and diagnostic skills.
• Experience working with:
  • Three-phase electrical systems
  • Motors and motor controls
  • Variable Speed Drives (VSDs)
  • PLC-controlled machinery
  • Electrical distribution systems
• Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics and engineering drawings.
• Knowledge of electrical health and safety regulations.

Desirable Requirements

• Experience within steel manufacturing, rolling mills, foundries, metals processing, or heavy industry.
• Siemens S7, Allen Bradley, or Mitsubishi PLC knowledge.
• 18th Edition Wiring Regulations.
• High voltage (HV) switching experience.
• Experience with SCADA and automation systems.
• IOSH or NEBOSH qualification.
