Job summary

Smurfit Westrock in the United Kingdom is seeking a skilled maintenance technician to perform planned maintenance on print and finishing equipment, respond to breakdowns, and support improvements in manufacturing processes.

Reporting to the Production Manager, you will train staff, help manage spare parts, and record activities in the maintenance system to boost machine reliability and overall production output in packaging operations.

Qualifications

  • City & Guilds with HNC or equivalent in Electrical Engineering.
  • Experience in a manufacturing environment.
  • Knowledge of PLCs, AC/DC motors, drives and controllers.
  • Strong organisational skills and fault-finding ability.
  • IPAF at heights training.

Responsibilities

  • Perform planned maintenance on print and print related machinery.
  • Train print minders to enhance maintenance practices.
  • Provide training for planned preventative maintenance in finishing.
  • Respond to breakdowns and requests for work.
  • Implement improvements on current processes.
  • Reduce downtime and maintain spare part inventory.
  • Identify and implement improvements on finishing maintenance processes.
  • Work with management to establish spare parts processes including Kanbans.
  • Record all engineering activities using the Electronic Maintenance Management System.
  • Improve effectiveness of machinery and production output.

JOB PURPOSE:

This job description is intended as a guide to the type of role the Job Holder is expected to perform. Reporting to the Production Manager, the successful candidate will work closely with all production teams performing both planned and breakdown maintenance on print and print related areas and to respond to requests for repairs/spared ordering in a timely manner in accordance with the requirements of the business.

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES:

The role will encompass:

  • Performing planned maintenance on print and print related machinery to ensure that they are at a high standard
  • Acting in a training capacity to print minders to enhance current maintenance practices
  • Implementing and providing training for all employees for planned preventative maintenance programs in finishing
  • Responding to breakdowns and requests for work
  • Implementing improvements on current processed
  • Reducing downtime of current equipment and maintain the current spare part inventory
  • Identifying and implementing improvements on current finishing maintenance processes
  • Working with management to establish new spare parts processes including Kanbans where necessary to improve spare part inventory management
  • Developing and recording all engineering activities carried out by use of the Electronic Maintenance Management System including spare parts ordering and booking in
  • Effectiveness of machinery and therefore production output
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, EXPERIENCE
  • City & Guilds trained with an HNC or equivalent in Electrical Engineering.
  • Experience working within a manufacturing environment
  • Mechanical engineering experience
  • Organisational skills with quick reactivity to breakdowns
  • Decision making ability
  • Adaptable technician with experience working with PLC's, AC/DC motors, drives and controllers, ideally within the packaging industry.
  • Adaptable fault finding and rectification skills.
  • IPAF working at heights training
