The Opportunity
Are you an experienced electrical installation professional looking for an opportunity to pass your industry knowledge on to the next generation?
Whether you’re already working in education or you’re an experienced electrician ready for a new direction, this could be the opportunity for you.
We’re looking for an Electrical Installations Trainer to join our Engineering department at Barnsley College, supporting apprentices to develop the practical skills, technical knowledge and professional behaviours they need to build successful careers within the electrical industry.
You’ll combine your industry expertise with teaching, training and assessment, delivering engaging theoretical and practical learning and supporting apprentices both at College and in the workplace. You’ll manage a caseload of apprentices throughout their journey, monitoring their progress, carrying out workplace assessments and helping them prepare confidently for their end-point assessment.
Building strong relationships will be an important part of your role. You’ll work closely with apprentices and their employers, completing regular tripartite progress reviews, setting meaningful SMART targets and ensuring everyone understands what is expected at each stage of the apprenticeship. You’ll also help develop inspiring learning and assessment materials aligned to apprenticeship Knowledge, Skills and Behaviours.
You’ll be joining a collaborative Engineering team focused on delivering high-quality technical education. You’ll also have opportunities to keep your industry knowledge current, contribute to quality assurance and support the continued development of our apprenticeship provision.
About You
You’ll bring strong, hands-on electrical installation experience from industry, with experience across both domestic and industrial installations, and the confidence to share that knowledge with apprentices at different stages of their development.
You don’t necessarily need to come from a teaching background. If you have the right electrical industry experience and technical qualifications, the JDPS allows you to work towards the required teaching and assessor qualifications.
You’ll be self-motivated, organised and comfortable managing your own workload and deadlines. Just as importantly, you’ll be a strong communicator who can develop positive relationships with apprentices, colleagues and employers and provide constructive feedback that helps learners progress.
If you’re passionate about your trade and would like to use your experience to help develop skilled electricians for the future, we’d love to hear from you.
