Job description

You know the electrical trade. Now help the next generation find their place in it.

We’re looking for experienced electricians who can bring current industry knowledge into the classroom and workshop.

You’ll teach Electrical Installation across Levels 1 to 3, helping students develop the practical skills, technical understanding and professional standards they need for apprenticeships and careers in the trade.

You don’t necessarily need to be a qualified teacher. If you have strong occupational experience and the ability to explain your trade clearly, we’ll support you to gain the appropriate teaching qualification.

You’ll:

  • plan and deliver practical and classroom-based learning;
  • teach electrical regulations, installation methods and safe working practices;
  • assess students’ work and provide clear, constructive feedback;
  • support students as a personal tutor;
  • contribute to curriculum development and recruitment activities; and
  • keep your technical and industry knowledge current.

You’ll need a relevant vocational qualification in Electrical Installation or a closely related discipline, alongside practical experience working as an electrician.

You’ll be methodical, credible and patient, with the confidence to set clear standards and explain technical concepts in ways that students understand.

At Wigan & Leigh College, you’ll join an experienced team with well-equipped facilities and strong links to the construction sector. You’ll help students gain the skills and confidence to progress into apprenticeships, employment and further study.

Benefits include generous annual leave, access to the Teachers' Pension Scheme or Local Government Pension Scheme, employee wellbeing support, salary sacrifice schemes and support to gain teaching qualifications.

Eligible FE teachers may also qualify for a government levelling‑up payment, subject to the applicable scheme criteria.

This role is subject to enhanced DBS and safeguarding checks.
