Job summary

Wigan & Leigh College is seeking an experienced electrician to teach electrical installation across Levels 1 to 3. You will deliver practical and theoretical lessons, guiding students toward apprenticeships and first employment in the trade.

The role requires a vocational qualification in Electrical Installation, current industry experience, and a teaching qualification or willingness to train. You’ll work across multiple sites with flexibility and commitment to safeguarding.

Teach the next generation of electricians.

At Wigan & Leigh College, you'll teach electrical installation across Levels 1 to 3. Your students will be heading into apprenticeships, first jobs in the trade, and the qualifications that get them there.

This role suits someone who's worked as an electrician and can teach what they know. You'll cover practical work and classroom theory, build students' understanding of regulations, materials, and methods, and set the standards they'll be expected to meet on site.

What you'll do

• Plan and deliver lessons across Levels 1 to 3, covering practical and theory work.
• Teach the standards, regulations, and methods that working electricians have to know.
• Mark work, give clear feedback, and use assessment results to shape how you teach.
• Act as a Personal Tutor, supporting students through their course and into their next steps.
• Contribute to curriculum development, departmental initiatives, and recruitment activities including Open Evenings, taster sessions, and school liaison.
• Keep your trade knowledge current as regulations and practice develop.

What you'll bring

• A vocational qualification in Electrical Installation or a related area.
• Working experience as an electrician.
• A teaching qualification, or willingness to work towards one. We'll support you to get there.
• GCSE English and Maths at Grade C or equivalent. You can work towards this during your probationary period.
• Confident to pick up IT and learning technologies for teaching.
