At Wigan & Leigh College, you'll teach electrical installation across Levels 1 to 3. Your students will be heading into apprenticeships, first jobs in the trade, and the qualifications that get them there.
This role suits someone who's worked as an electrician and can teach what they know. You'll cover practical work and classroom theory, build students' understanding of regulations, materials, and methods, and set the standards they'll be expected to meet on site.
At Wigan & Leigh College, the moments that change lives are often quiet ones. A practical task completed properly for the first time. A conversation in a corridor that helps someone work out where they're heading. That's what Great People. Change Lives. means in practice. You'll join an Electrical Installation team where students learn from people who've done the work.
You’ll have time to teach well, the facilities to teach electrical installation properly, and colleagues who care about doing the job right. You'll see the impact when students leave ready for an apprenticeship or a first job in the trade. And you’ll be part of The North-West Construction Technical Excellence College, building the workforce of the future.
You could be eligible for a government levelling-up payment of £2,000–£6,000 if you teach subjects like construction, engineering, maths, computing or early years. This applies if you're in your first 5 years of FE teaching and spend at least 50% of your time teaching eligible level 3 (or below) courses. Find out more.
This role involves working with children in a regulated activity (which means any activity with close or unsupervised contact with children on a frequent or intensive basis). This covers things like teaching, training, supervising and advising children. It's a criminal offence to apply for this post if you're barred from engaging in regulated activity with children.
If you’re offered the role, we’ll need to do some checks before you start, including verifying any qualifications, a DBS (Disclosure and Barring Service) and a medical questionnaire. We use Protocol National Ltd & E-Safeguarding Ltd, so they may contact you.
