Job summary

Scottish and Southern Electricity Networks is seeking an Electrical Network Asset Inspector (Low-Voltage) to inspect low-voltage cables, engage with customers and resolve access challenges across the local area. This permanent, full-time role requires a full UK driving license and willingness to travel.

You will record inspection findings with handheld tech, ensure health and safety compliance and help asset management decisions, while representing SSE as a professional ambassador to customers.

Qualifications

  • Experience with electrical cables, meters, wiring and cable installations.
  • Knowledge of DNO operations and Electricity Safety, Quality and Continuity Regulations.
  • Familiarity with COSHH regulations.

Responsibilities

  • Carry out inspections of low-voltage cables branching from the main network to supply properties.
  • Gather and record information to ensure health and safety compliance.
  • Identify asset defects and raise through proper channels with safety priority.
  • Liaise with landowners/tenants to secure access and resolve refusals.
  • Represent SSE professionally as a company ambassador to customers.

Electrical Network Asset Inspector (Low-Voltage)

(Also know as: Rising Lateral Mains Asset Inspector)

Base Location: Andover, Melksham, Swindon or Oxford

Salary: £30,684 - £36,666 plus the following:

Working Pattern: Permanent | Full Time, 37 hours | Onsite

A fantastic opportunity for Electricians looking to take their career in a new direction, using their technical expertise in a role that combines inspection, problem-solving and customer interaction.

You’ll play a key role in helping us maintain the electricity network that powers homes and residential buildings, ensuring our assets remain safe, compliant and fit for the future.

You’ll spend your days inspecting network assets, meeting customers and solving access challenges, so if you’re a people person who also likes cables, you’re in good company!

Working across your local area, you’ll engage with homeowners, landlords and property managers, using the latest handheld technology to record inspection findings and support informed asset management decisions.

It’s a role with real responsibility, variety and very few days spent sitting behind a desk, all while helping to keep communities connected.

You Will
  • Carry out detailed inspections of low-voltage electrical cables that branch off the main distribution network to supply individual properties.
  • Gather and record accurate information to make sure all work meets health and safety requirements
  • Spot asset defects and raise them through the right channels, always keeping safety as the top priority.
  • Securing access by liaising with landowners, tenants, and property management teams, and efficiently resolving or escalating any access refusals.
  • Act as a company ambassador, presenting a professional and positive image to our customers.
You Have
  • Previous experiences of working with electrical cables, meters, wiring and cable installations.
  • Have a good working knowledge of DNO operations, along with the Electricity Safety, Quality and Continuity Regulations.
  • Be familiar with COSHH regulations and how they apply in practice.
  • Understand distribution inspection procedures and the relevant statutory requirements.

As there is a requirement to travel to various locations, a full UK driving license is therefore essential.
