Job summary

SSE is hiring a Voltage Complaints Technician to operate across Swindon, Melksham, Andover and Oxford. The role focuses on safe, compliant outage response and network reliability, with a strong emphasis on customer liaison and incident restoration.

Applicants should have IOSH Managing Safety, City & Guilds 2339, EUSR/NRSWA and HV/LV authorisations, plus a full UK driving licence. SSE offers flexible benefits and progression within a supportive team.

• Operational Safety Rules knowledge and Cat 1–5 authorisations (Substation Entry, Supervising a Working Party, LV Switching).
• Cat 7 HV Switching authorisations (or working towards).
• Cat 12 & Cat 14 SAP authorisations (or working towards).

Responsibilities

• Prioritise safety in all tasks and allocate resources efficiently.
• Handle customer inquiries about network supply continuity and regulatory targets.
• Restore power quickly and ensure complete repair before closure.
• Safeguard the environment and protect the company’s reputation.
• Respond promptly to emergencies, including severe weather, to minimise disruptions.

About The Role

Base Location: Swindon, Melksham, Andover and Oxford

Salary: £36,139-£43,188 depending on skills and experience + a range of benefits to support your finances, wellbeing and family.

Working Pattern: Permanent | Full Time

As a Voltage Complaints Technician, you'll be working with both LV and HV networks, tackling ongoing issues and fixing them according to industry rules like ESQCR.

You’ll need to be good at problem-solving, managing relationships with different teams, and staying calm under pressure in a fast-paced setting.

You will

• Prioritise safety above all else by integrating it into every part of the job, ensuring resource allocation is efficient and work is carried out in the safest way possible.
• Handle customer inquiries about network supply continuity, ensuring reliable performance and meeting regulatory requirements and business targets for network security.
• Act quickly and efficiently to restore power to customers, ensuring a complete and thorough repair is made before closing the job.
• Safeguard the environment and surrounding areas to protect the company's reputation and maintain high standards of care.
• Respond promptly to emergency situations, including severe weather events, to minimize disruptions and ensure quick resolution.

What do I need?

Role

To be considered for this role, we would like you to have the below or willing to undertake training to acquire these accreditations:

• Experience in conducting investigations and creating detailed reports, along with IOSH Managing Safety and City & Guilds 2339 certification.
• Energy & Utility Skills Register (EUSR) and New Roads & Streetworks Act (NRSWA) certification.
• Good working knowledge of the Operational Safety Rules and hold Operational Authorisations Cat 1 - 5 (Substation Entry, Supervising a Working Party, LV Switching), 10 (Mobile Generation).
• Cat 7 (HV Switching) authorisations, or actively working towards them.
• Cat 12 & Cat 14 (SAP) authorisations, or currently working towards obtaining them.

Due to the nature of the role, a full UK drivers licence is essential.
