Job summary

Murphy is offering an Electrical Engineering Degree Apprenticeship (Level 6) in the UK. The two-year programme is based in-house with the Applied Engineering team and includes on-the-job training and mentoring from Principal Engineers.

You'll study and work toward a BEng in Electrical & Electronic Engineering while gaining hands-on experience on high- and medium-voltage projects across the UK. Travel to sites is required; a full UK driving licence may be needed.

Qualifications

• GCSE Maths and English at grade A*-C / 4-9 (or equivalent).
• Minimum 3 A Levels including Maths and a Science subject (ABB).
• BTEC Extended Diploma with one of specified engineering subjects (DDM).
• T-Level Distinction in relevant engineering pathways (Design and Development; Manufacturing).

Responsibilities

• Work on engineering projects from 11kV to 400kV for UK networks.
• Learn and apply Autodesk Revit, Navisworks, AutoCAD and other design tools.
• Produce circuit diagrams for Digital Automation and Power Cable designs.

Electrical Engineering Degree Apprenticeship Programme

Murphyareoffering an exceptional opportunity for ambitious technically minded individuals who are looking to embark on the first step in an Engineering career. We are looking for outstanding individuals to join our Power Project Engineering teams, who utilise Digital Design knowledge to produce high voltage substation and cable system designs. This apprenticeship offers the opportunity to gain invaluable engineering experience, with on-the-job training and mentoring from Principal Engineers in all engineering disciplines of Substation and Cable system design on major construction projects in the UK for Transmission and Distribution Network operators.

Our degree apprenticeship programme offers you the chance to secure a university degree debt-free, whilst gaining invaluable on-the-job experience. Your tuition fees for this degree will be paid for by Murphy and you’ll also be earning a competitive apprenticeship salary.

Training and mentoring will be provided by Principal Engineers, and the wider engineering teams. Your responsibilities will increase throughout the duration of your Apprenticeship as your skills and technical knowledge develop. This will be your start on a path of Professional development towards becoming a Chartered Engineer. We will provide an established career path for you to progress through the organisation that can be moulded to suit your individual engineering discipline preferences and ambitions.

Key responsibilities will include:

• Working on engineering projects from 11kV to 400kV to support the UK Transmission and Distribution networks
• Learning to use Autodesk Revit, Navisworks, AutoCAD and other design packages, such as Solid Works andComsol.
• Producing circuit diagrams for Digital Automation System designs and Power Cable System designs.

What qualification will I receive through the apprenticeship? As part of this apprenticeship, you will follow the Electrical Engineer level 6 apprenticeship standard which takes 5.5 years to complete through Exeter University. Through the apprenticeship you will work towards achieving a BEng in Electrical & Electronic Engineering and a Level 6-degree apprenticeship.

Where will I be based on the apprenticeship? We are recruiting for this apprenticeship across various projects across the UK. Due to the remote locations of some of our sites, applicants must be willing to travel asrequired. Due to the nature of our work and size of our sites, we may require you to have a full clean UK driving licence.

What do I need to be considered for the apprenticeship?

• GCSE Maths and English at grade A*- C / 4-9 (or equivalent)

• T-Level grade distinction in Design and Development for Engineering and Manufacturing; Engineering; Manufacturing; Processing and Control; Maintenance, Installation and Repair for Engineering: Manufacturing only, Surveying and Planning for Construction.

You don’t need to have previous experience for the role, but you do need to be ready to learn, have a positive mindset and a can-do attitude!
