Job summary

Sweco in Leeds is seeking an Electrical Engineer to join the design team and deliver electrical, instrumentation and control designs for water-related projects in the UK. The role offers flexibility with at least three days in the office and adaptable start/end times, with the Leeds office moving to City Centre mid-2026.

Qualifications

  • Degree in Electrical Engineering or equivalent.
  • Working towards chartered status with a relevant professional institution.
  • Knowledge of electrical, instrumentation and control design for the water industry.
  • Experience delivering water designs for Water Companies/Contractors.
  • Understanding of environmental and health & safety legislation.

Responsibilities

  • Undertaking outline and detailed designs and specifications for electrical, instrumentation and control works.
  • Providing day to day technical input as part of a team of engineers and technicians.
  • Ensuring design output is completed in accordance with the agreed scope of works, timescales and budgets.
  • Working in close collaboration with colleagues from other disciplines as required to deliver project requirements and added value to the Client.

We are currently looking for a talented and motivated Electrical Engineer to join our design team in Leeds as part of a multi‑disciplinary department providing detailed designs for water related projects in the UK. This role can be worked flexibly with a minimum of 3 days per week in the office and the option of adjusted start and finish times. Our Leeds office is relocating to Leeds City Centre mid‑2026. We’ll support you to develop your technical expertise so that you can become a real difference maker and develop sustainable and innovative solutions to address these issues. You’ll join a growing team of Engineers working together towards the best client outcomes. We are looking for individuals who can challenge conventional thinking and work collaboratively to meet a wide range of business, environment and regulatory challenges for these clients. The role offers an opportunity for successful candidates to broaden and diversify their expertise.

What does the role involve?

To Be Successful In This Role You Will Have
  • A degree in Electrical Engineering (or equivalent) and working towards achieving chartered status with a relevant professional institution.
  • Knowledge and experience of electrical, instrumentation and control design for the water industry.
  • The ability to work with engineers from all disciplines and other industry professionals to optimise and develop bespoke and innovative designs.
  • Experience in the delivery of water designs and specifications on water related projects for Water Companies, Contractors and industry.
  • An appreciation of the implications of works on the environment and knowledge of sustainable solutions, water and wastewater processes and health and safety legislation.
