Job summary

Astute People is seeking an Electrical Engineer to support Hartlepool nuclear decommissioning, focusing on 11kV and 400V distribution design and technical leadership.

You will work in a highly regulated environment, interfacing with DNOs and delivering engineering documentation, with opportunities for professional development and SC clearance where applicable.

Qualifications

  • Degree qualified in Electrical Engineering.
  • Proven experience designing industrial power distribution systems (11kV and 400V).
  • Experience managing interfaces with DNOs and/or National Grid infrastructure.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the design and implementation of industrial power distribution systems (11kV/400V).
  • Act as technical lead for electrical engineering activities across projects.
  • Manage interfaces with DNOs and support new connections and agreements.
  • Produce and review engineering documentation: specs, reports, drawings, QA plans.
  • Review contractor designs, changes and commissioning docs.
  • Support contractor selection, contract management and technical queries.
  • Oversee installation, testing and commissioning, ensuring compliance with legislation and safe systems of work.
  • Collaborate with Project Managers and Construction Managers for delivery.
  • Build relationships with clients, contractors and internal teams.
  • Contribute technical input into tenders and proposals.

Job description

Astute's Nuclear Team is partnering with a leading specialist engineering business delivering innovative solutions for nuclear decommissioning, radioactive waste management, and waste treatment. This role will be supporting the safe and efficient decommissioning of Hartlepool Power Station, delivering critical engineering expertise throughout this complex project.

The Electrical Engineer role comes with a salary up to £65,000, excellent benefits and the opportunity to work on technically challenging projects within a highly regulated environment.

Both permanent and contract options are considered for this opportunity.

Responsibilities and duties of the Electrical Engineer role

Reporting to the Engineering & Design Manager you will:

  • Lead the design and implementation of industrial power distribution systems, including 11kV and 400V infrastructure.
  • Act as the technical lead for electrical engineering activities across assigned projects, ensuring delivery to time, cost and quality objectives.
  • Manage the interface with Distribution Network Operators (DNOs) and support new electrical connections and technical agreements.
  • Produce and review engineering documentation including specifications, technical reports, drawings and quality plans.
  • Carry out technical reviews of contractor designs, engineering changes and commissioning documentation.
  • Support contractor selection, contract management and technical query resolution.
  • Oversee installation, testing and commissioning activities, ensuring compliance with relevant legislation, standards and safe systems of work.
  • Work closely with Project Managers and Construction Managers to ensure successful project delivery.
  • Build strong relationships with clients, contractors and internal engineering teams.
  • Support business development activities, including technical input into tenders and proposals.
Professional qualifications

We are looking for someone with the following:

  • Degree qualified in Electrical Engineering.
  • Strong experience designing industrial power distribution systems (11kV and 400V).
  • Experience managing interfaces with DNOs and/or National Grid infrastructure.
  • Proven experience delivering electrical engineering projects within highly regulated industries such as nuclear, power generation, defence, oil & gas or other heavy industrial sectors.
Personal skills

The Electrical Engineer role would suit someone who has:

  • Knowledge of CDM Regulations and construction project delivery.
  • Experience producing engineering calculations, technical specifications and design documentation.
  • Chartered Engineer status and/or a recognised project management qualification (such as APM PMQ) would be advantageous.
  • HV installation and testing experience would be beneficial.
  • Must be eligible for SC clearance or hold current SC clearance.
Salary and benefits of the Electrical Engineer role
  • Salary between £60,000 - £65,000, doe.
