Job summary

FBR Construction Recruitment is seeking an experienced Electrical Engineer to join a rapidly growing engineering business focused on E-Houses and MV switchgear for the UK renewable energy sector. You will lead design, engineering and delivery from tender through FAT, overseeing budgets and liaising with clients and subcontractors.

The role involves design of 11kV/33kV switchgear, production of SLDs, wiring schematics, protection schemes and coordination with HVAC and other ancillary systems.

Qualifications

• Formal qualification in Electrical Engineering (ideally with exposure to up to 36kV).
• Experience with MV switchgear manufacturers (Schneider Electric, ABB, Siemens).
• Experience in a manufacturing/factory production environment.

Responsibilities

• Managing turnkey projects from tender through FAT.
• Designing 11kV and 33kV MV switchgear installations.
• Producing substation layouts, SLDs, wiring schematics, cable calculations, earthing layouts and protection schemes.
• Supporting ancillary systems (HVAC, fire protection, lighting, auxiliary services).
• Collaborating with production teams, subcontractors and clients to ensure project delivery and resolve issues.
• Reviewing specifications, identifying risks and managing engineering challenges.
• Supporting sales and procurement with technical datasheets and BOMs.

I’m currently recruiting for an experienced Electrical Engineer to join a successful and rapidly growing engineering business specialising in the manufacture of E-Houses and medium-voltage (MV) switchgear for the UK renewable energy sector.

The Role

You’ll play a key role in the design, engineering and delivery of E-House and switchgear projects, taking ownership from initial tender through to Factory Acceptance Testing (FAT).

• Managing turnkey projects from tender stage through to FAT.
• Designing 11kV and 33kV medium-voltage switchgear installations.
• Producing substation layouts, single-line diagrams (SLDs), wiring schematics, cable calculations, earthing layouts and protection schemes.
• Supporting the specification and design of ancillary systems, including HVAC, fire protection, lighting and auxiliary services.
• Collaborating with production teams, subcontractors and clients to ensure successful project delivery.
• Reviewing technical specifications, identifying project risks and resolving engineering challenges.
• Supporting sales and procurement teams with technical documentation, datasheets and Bills of Materials (BOMs).

What We’re Looking For

• A formal qualification and proven experience in Electrical Engineering, ideally working with systems up to 36kV.
• Experience with MV switchgear manufacturers such as Schneider Electric, ABB or Siemens.
• Knowledge of medium-voltage switchgear, protection relays and CTs/VTs.
• Experience in a manufacturing or factory production environment.
• Strong project management, organisational and communication skills.
• Experience managing budgets, forecasting expenditure and maintaining strong client relationships.
