Job summary

DAVID WOOD BAKING LTD in Rogerstone, Newport, seeks an electrically biased, multi-skilled Shift Engineer to maintain a fully automated bread plant. You will resolve breakdowns, carry out planned maintenance and support continuous production in a high-volume bakery environment.

This 42-hour week operates on a 4-on/4-off pattern (days 06:00-18:00, nights 18:00-06:00). Ideal candidates have an electrical qualification (HNC/BTEC or equivalent), strong fault-finding skills and PLC knowledge;

Qualifications

• Electrical biased maintenance engineer with experience in food production.
• Experience with high-volume bakery equipment (ovens, conveyors, mixers).
• HNC/BTEC or equivalent in electrical discipline required or preferred.

Responsibilities

• Resolve breakdowns and deliver prompt maintenance to minimise downtime.
• Document issues and carry out planned maintenance using CMMS.
• Support senior engineers and assist with project work when needed.

Work Hours - 42hrs per week

Shift Pattern: 4 on 4 off- (2 days- 06:00am-18:00pm & 2 nights 18:00pm-06:00am)

Rate of pay: Negotiable dependant on experience.

David Wood Foods is a leading food manufacturing company with over 20 years’ experience in the bakery business.We currently produce a range of quality frozen 'bake off' and craft bakery products encompassing Savoury Pastry, Sweet Pastry, Bread, Morning Goods and Confectionery products from seven cutting-edge bakeries around the UK.

About the role:

Due to company expansion we are looking to recruit a Shift Engineer for our fully automated bread plant based in Rogerstone, primarily to support the running of the factory by resolving breakdowns and by delivering maintenance.

Key Responsibilities:

• To provide a hands on role resolving immediate problems ensuring continuity of production and limitation of waste or damaged product.
• Proactively identify and solve problems on the plant to increase reliability and efficiency.
• Keep up-to-date with Best Practice and CI Initiatives.
• To document all breakdowns and repairs.
• To utilise the planned preventive maintenance system to ensure all the production equipment is maintained regularly.
• To aid in project work when requested by the senior engineers.
• To ensure technical investigations into all breakdowns establishing the route cause analysis and the remedial action required.
• Ensure compliance with all statutory requirement including all Health and Safety issues.
• To work safely at all times using the correct PPE as required in the risk assessments for each particular task.
• To communicate to the production shift manager indicating realistic timescales on major breakdowns to keep production informed of the progress of the breakdown.

Key skills/Experience

• Are you a trained electrically biased multi-skilled Maintenance Engineer.
• Experience of working with high volume bakery manufacturing equipment (mixers, moulders, ovens, slicers, chillers, conveyors) would be ideal.
• Are you qualified to HNC/BTEC or an equivalent in the electrical discipline?
• Do you have experience within the Food Manufacturing sector or other FMCG engineering environment?
• Do you possess excellent fault finding skills and are you able to demonstrate experience of planned and reactive maintenance work with basic PLC knowledge.
• Are you self-motivated, a good team player and have the ability to solve problems effectively and efficiently.
