Job summary

Sodexo at Queen Mary’s Hospital, Roehampton, seeks an experienced Electrical Engineer to maintain critical hospital electrical systems on site. You’ll work in a live healthcare environment, ensuring safety, compliance and uninterrupted patient care while supporting a skilled Estates team.

You will deliver PPM and reactive maintenance, fault diagnosis and repairs across LV distribution, switchgear, generators, UPS/IPS, and related electrical services in line with HTM guidance.

Qualifications

  • Level 3 electrical qualification (NVQ, City & Guilds or equivalent).
  • Experience in healthcare estates, hospitals or similar critical environments.
  • Proven experience delivering PPM and reactive maintenance.
  • Ability to work on-call and cover shifts.

Responsibilities

  • Deliver planned preventative maintenance (PPM) and reactive maintenance across electrical building services systems.
  • Diagnose faults, undertake repairs and restore services safely and efficiently.
  • Maintain and support critical infrastructure including LV distribution, switchgear, generators, UPS/IPS.
  • Ensure all works meet HTM guidance, BS7671, regulations and site procedures.
  • Support permit-to-work, isolation and safety management processes.
  • Maintain accurate maintenance records, service reports and compliance documentation.
  • Collaborate with Estates colleagues, clinical teams and contractors to minimise disruption and maintain service continuity.
  • Assist with lifecycle replacement programmes, testing and commissioning.
  • Identify risks and opportunities for improvement.
  • Contribute to a culture of safety, compliance and continuous improvement.

  • Location: Queen Mary's Hospital, Roehampton
  • Hours: 40 hrs - 10:30am - 7pm Monday to Friday + On-call
  • Uniform and tools provided
  • Participation in on-call rota required
  • Additional AP Allowance of £500 per annum for employees holding a current AP qualification

This role is idealfor an experienced Electrical Engineer who thrives in a critical healthcareenvironment and understands the importance of safety, compliance and servicecontinuity.

To be successful in this role, you must have:
  • Level 3 Electrical Qualification (NVQ, City & Guilds or equivalent)
  • Experience working within healthcare estates, hospital engineering or a similarly regulated critical environment
  • Proven experience delivering both planned preventative maintenance (PPM) and reactive maintenance
  • Strong fault-finding and diagnostic skills across electrical building services systems
  • Knowledge of statutory compliance, safe systems of work and permit-to-work procedures
  • Ability to work on-call and provide your own transport when covering call-outs
Highly desirable:
  • HTM Level 3 training or equivalent healthcare estates experience
  • Authorised Person (AP) qualification or experience supporting AP responsibilities
  • Experience working with LV systems, generators, UPS/IPS systems and critical infrastructure

What You'll Do:
  • Deliver planned preventative maintenance (PPM) and reactive maintenance across a wide range of electrical building services systems.
  • Diagnose faults, undertake repairs and restore services safely and efficiently.
  • Maintain and support critical infrastructure including LV distribution systems, switchgear, emergency lighting, generators, UPS and IPS systems.
  • Ensure all works are completed in accordance with HTM guidance, BS7671, statutory regulations and site procedures.
  • Support permit-to-work, isolation and safety management processes.
  • Maintain accurate maintenance records, service reports and compliance documentation.
  • Work closely with Estates colleagues, clinical teams and specialist contractors to minimise disruption and maintain service continuity.
  • Assist with lifecycle replacement programmes, testing, commissioning and minor project works.
  • Identify risks, plant condition concerns and opportunities for improvement.
  • Contribute to a culture of safety, compliance and continuous improvement across the hospital estate.
What You Bring:
  • NVQ Level 3, City & Guilds, or equivalent Electrical qualification.
  • Experience working within healthcare estates, hospitals, PFI environments or similarly critical facilities.
  • Strong experience maintaining and repairing electrical building services systems .
  • Proven ability to diagnose faults and carry out repairs safely and effectively.
  • Good understanding of HTM standards, statutory compliance and healthcare engineering requirements.
  • Experience working within permit-to-work and isolation procedures.
  • Ability to interpret technical drawings, schematics and engineering documentation.
  • Excellent communication and teamwork skills.
  • Strong organisational and record-keeping abilities.
  • A proactive, safety-first approach.
  • HTM Level 3 or equivalent healthcare engineering training.
  • Authorised Person (AP) qualification or experience.
  • Experience with CAFM, Maximo or similar maintenance management systems.
  • Knowledge of generators, emergency lighting, IPS, UPS and standby power systems.
  • Experience within NHS, healthcare or other highly regulated environment
