Job summary

Sodexo in Reading is seeking a Building Services Multiskilled Technician to maintain and develop our client facilities. You’ll carry out planned and reactive maintenance across building services, diagnose faults, and support minor installations to keep systems safe and compliant.

You will work independently and as part of a larger engineering team, participate in emergency call-outs, and use a CMMS to log work.

Qualifications

  • Essential NVQ3 Electrotechnical or equivalent.
  • Essential 18th Edition qualification.
  • Around 2 years' relevant maintenance experience.
  • Practical electrical fault-finding skills.
  • Experience in technical maintenance or building services environment.
  • Knowledge of risk assessments and health & safety procedures.
  • Ability to use CMMS and basic IT tools.

Responsibilities

  • Carry out planned and reactive maintenance across building services and assets.
  • Diagnose faults and complete repairs safely and efficiently.
  • Undertake routine maintenance, inspections and servicing to keep systems compliant and operational.
  • Carry out asset replacements and support minor installation works as required.
  • Respond to reactive maintenance requests and meet service levels.
  • Complete risk assessments and safe systems of work before maintenance.
  • Maintain accurate records and use CMMS to log work.
  • Provide guidance to apprentices and work with subcontractors when on site.

Join our team and play a key role in delivering excellence and innovation in Hard FM and Technical Facilities Services.

As a Building Services Multiskilled Technician you’ll:
  • Carry out planned and reactive maintenance across a range of building services and engineering assets.
  • Diagnose faults and complete repairs safely and efficiently within your technical capabilities.
  • Undertake routine maintenance, inspections and servicing to ensure building systems remain safe, compliant and operational.
  • Carry out like-for-like asset replacements and support minor installation and new works as required.
  • Respond to reactive maintenance requests, prioritising work to meet agreed service levels and deadlines.
  • Complete appropriate risk assessments and safe systems of work before undertaking maintenance activities.
  • Ensure all work complies with relevant statutory requirements, Health & Safety legislation, engineering standards and industry best practice.
  • Support and supervise specialist subcontractors while they are carrying out works on site.
  • Participate in the emergency call-out rota, attending site out of hours when engineering support is required.
  • Maintain accurate records of work completed, including time spent, materials used and any follow-up actions required.
  • Use computerised maintenance management systems to update jobs and maintain accurate maintenance records.
  • Maintain tools, equipment and PPE in a safe and serviceable condition.
  • Build positive working relationships with customers, colleagues, contractors and other site stakeholders.
  • Provide guidance and practical support to apprentices where required.
  • Consider cost, efficiency and sustainability when carrying out maintenance and repair activities.
  • Complete required training and competency assessments to maintain and develop your technical skills.
What we’re looking for:
  • NVQ Level 3 in Electrotechnical Technology or equivalent - essential.
  • 18th Edition qualification - essential.
  • Around 2 years' relevant engineering/building services maintenance experience.
  • Practical electrical engineering and fault-finding skills.
  • Experience working independently within a technical maintenance or building services environment.
  • A good understanding of engineering compliance, regulations and industry best practice.
  • Experience working with safe systems of work, risk assessments and Health & Safety procedures.
  • The ability to diagnose faults and determine appropriate solutions within your level of competence.
  • Good organisational skills with the ability to plan and manage your own workload.
  • The ability to prioritise planned and reactive maintenance to meet deadlines.
  • Good IT skills, including Microsoft Office and experience using a Computerised Maintenance Management System (CMMS).
  • Good communication and customer service skills.
  • A proactive, resourceful and resilient approach to problem-solving.
  • The ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a wider engineering team.
  • Flexibility to participate in out-of-hours emergency call-outs when required.
