Job summary

Samuel Frank is recruiting an Electrical Design Engineer in Gloucester to focus on electrical design of standard and bespoke automated machinery used by customers worldwide. You will produce electrical schematics and control-panel layouts, collaborating with mechanical, software and pneumatic engineers.

The role covers BOMs, component selection, and documentation, with involvement in risk assessments and CE compliance. A patient principal engineer supports learning in a growing team.

Qualifications

• Essential: AutoCAD Electrical experience.
• At least 12 months electrical design experience in automated machinery or similar.
• Nice to have understanding of machinery safety, risk assessments and CE compliance.
• You should be steady, dependable and able to work accurately in a small team.
• Interest in a long-term career in electrical design, not PLC software.

Responsibilities

• Produce electrical schematics using AutoCAD Electrical.
• Create control-panel and cabinet layouts.
• Produce BOMs, termination lists and supporting docs.
• Select electrical components with cost, availability and obsolescence in mind.
• Work from customer specs and internal sales docs.
• Collaborate with mechanical, software and pneumatic engineers.
• Present electrical designs during design reviews.
• Support electrical risk assessments, machine safety and CE compliance.
• Identify and report technical risks.
• Manage design changes and maintain project documentation.
• Provide occasional customer support including fault-finding.
