Job summary

Spencer Ogden is seeking an experienced Electrical Design Engineer to join the in-house design team. You will deliver safe, efficient electrical infrastructure across energy and grid projects from concept through construction, supporting renewable transitions.

Responsibilities include HV substation design (11kV–132kV), protection & control, cable design, earthing, and detailed design packages, while collaborating with CAD/panel teams and engaging with clients and DNO/TNO representatives to meet

Qualifications

• Degree in Electrical Engineering (or equivalent).
• Strong technical knowledge of power engineering and HV systems.
• Proven experience in electrical design in contracting/utilities/energy sectors.
• Ability to manage multiple projects with deadlines.
• Excellent communication skills to explain design decisions.
• High-quality technical report writing skills.
• Proficiency with MS Office and design tools like Digsilent Powerfactory and Cymcap.

Responsibilities

• Design of HV substations and electrical infrastructure (11kV to 132kV), including layouts, busbar designs, and equipment specifications.
• Protection & Control design: SLDs, schematics, specifications, coordination studies, and relay configurations.
• HV cable design, including ampacity calculations and verification using specialist software.
• Earthing design and review, including use of CDEGS.
• Preparation of detailed design packages, schematics, diagrams, cable schedules, and calculations.
• Collaboration with CAD and panel assembly teams to produce outputs.
• Site surveys, inspections, and factory acceptance testing.
• Engaging directly with clients, consultants, and DNO/TNO representatives to deliver projects on time.
• Ensuring compliance with safety, CDM, and health & safety regulations.

You’ll work from initial concept through to construction, ensuring designs meet the highest standards while supporting the transition to renewable and sustainable energy.
