About the role:
An opportunity has arisen for a Principal Electrical Engineer to play a key role in delivering high quality, sustainable electrical engineering solutions across a range of complex building services projects.
The successful candidate will join an established electrical engineering team, with opportunities to collaborate across multiple offices and contribute to projects nationally.
The role will involve taking a lead position in the design and delivery of significant and technically complex building services projects, with responsibility for the electrical design from inception through to completion.
As a technical lead, the Principal Electrical Engineer will manage and prioritise project teams, coordinate with other engineering disciplines and external consultants, and represent the organisation at client and project meetings. The role will involve ensuring projects are delivered to a high technical standard, within programme and with appropriate commercial awareness.
There will also be opportunities to develop client relationships, contribute to business development and support the continued growth and development of the wider electrical engineering team.
Key responsibilities:
- Lead the electrical design delivery of significant and complex building services projects.
- Take responsibility for achieving agreed design objectives, technical standards and quality requirements.
- Develop and agree project design briefs with clients and manage relationships with clients, consultants and other stakeholders.
- Represent the organisation at project and client meetings.
- Manage, coordinate and motivate internal project teams, including specialist technical groups where required.
- Plan and prioritise workloads to ensure project deliverables are completed on time and to the required standard.
- Delegate, review and check work undertaken by other engineers and team members.
- Provide technical guidance and mentoring, supporting the professional development of less experienced colleagues.
- Coordinate electrical design with other building services and engineering disciplines to deliver integrated solutions.
- Monitor project expenditure, resources and costs, escalating issues where appropriate.
- Identify and manage technical, programme and commercial risks.
- Maintain awareness of contractual, procurement and appointment considerations that may affect project delivery.
- Ensure design deliverables are technically accurate, coordinated and compliant with relevant regulations and guidance.
- Contribute to business development and the development of long-term client relationships.
- Share technical knowledge and best practice across the wider organisation.
- Communicate clearly and effectively with colleagues, clients, contractors and other project stakeholders.
- Contribute to the continuous improvement of technical standards, processes and project delivery.
To be successful in this role, candidates will ideally have:
- A relevant degree or professional qualification in electrical engineering or building services engineering.
- Professional recognition within the industry, with Chartered status or a clear pathway towards Chartership preferred.
- Extensive technical knowledge and practical experience in electrical building services design.
- A strong understanding of relevant regulations, standards, legislation and industry guidance.
- Experience delivering electrical engineering solutions across complex building projects.
- Experience leading and coordinating multidisciplinary design teams.
- A strong understanding of how electrical systems interact with other building services disciplines.
- Proven experience managing client relationships and representing a consultancy or engineering organisation externally.
- The ability to lead teams effectively, delegate work and support the development of other engineers.
- Experience delivering projects within demanding programmes and managing competing priorities.
- Good commercial awareness, including experience monitoring project costs, resources and risks.
- Strong organisational, planning and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Confidence working collaboratively with clients, consultants, contractors and other stakeholders.
- Proficiency with relevant industry design and modelling software, such as Revit, AutoCAD and electrical design, calculation or lighting software.
