Electrical, Control and Instrumentation (EC&I) Maintenance Technician, Northwich

Key Responsibilities:
- Maintain all LV, Electrical, and Instrumentation equipment and control systems on the Weavergate site.
- Apply a broad range of technical skills, ideally gained on a Top tier COMAH chemical manufacturing site.
- Work with process manufacturing equipment, instrumentation, and automated packaging equipment.
- Assist in planning and scoping work activities, designing technical improvements, and liaising with suppliers and contractors.
- Demonstrate strong coaching skills.
Organisational Position:
The EC&I Maintenance Technician reports to the Maintenance Manager and is a key member of the site maintenance team.
Hours of Work:
The role involves shift work, alternating weekly between 6:00 – 14:00 and 13:00 – 21:00, with flexibility for occasional day or weekend work, and includes shift allowances.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Safety:
- Comply with all SHE requirements and improvement programs.
- Conduct Behavioral Safety Observations and provide feedback.
- Prepare and use Risk Assessments.
- Address unsafe practices with colleagues and third parties.
- Report near misses, incidents, and accidents promptly.
- Contribute to improving site SHE standards.
- Maintain site housekeeping and 5S standards.
- Follow site Management of Change Procedures.
- Ensure compliance with statutory electrical regulations.
- Participate in emergency response activities, including spill containment, fire response, and casualty search, which may require breathing apparatus and a clean-shaven appearance.
Service:
- Knowledge of PLC and SCADA programming and maintenance.
- Maintain automated packaging equipment.
- Set up and maintain instrumentation.
- Perform root cause analysis of equipment failures.
- Identify and implement improvements to minimize breakdowns and optimize performance (TPM/Preventative Maintenance).
- Work with suppliers and contractors on maintenance tasks.
- Document repairs and inspections in the CMMS.
Savings:
- Adhere to weekly maintenance schedules efficiently.
- Support operational staff with autonomous maintenance training.
- Propose cost-effective engineering solutions.
- Manage small projects for maintenance improvements, replacements, and cost reductions.
Qualifications and Experience:
- Time-served EC&I technician with minimum ONC, NVQ Level 3, or equivalent.
- At least 5 years’ experience, preferably on a Top Tier COMAH chemical site.
- Ability to work independently, with motivation and discipline.
- Strong communication, troubleshooting, and coaching skills.
- Qualified for hazardous area work (COMPEX).
- Trained in 18th edition electrical wiring regulations.
- Experience with chemical process equipment, instrumentation, and control systems.
- Experience working with hazardous chemicals and automated packaging equipment.
- Familiarity with CMMS, TPM/lean techniques, and Root Cause Analysis.
